Last time I enquired and thats a few years back a open mold went for +- R250 000 per size and molds for older model frames that has already been facelifted or new models were launched went for even more so dont think your statement about lots of small shops are so spot on. There are only a few shops that actually make frames and they not that small. Most of the chinese selling blanks get their frames from the same manufacturers and are only agents although most will say they build their own frames. Also as far as I know there are 3 major factories that builds for the major brands of which the biggest is Giant who builds for quite a few other big names.

Exactly Mayhem. Some people just dont get it. The different K weaves has nothing to do with the strength. Its all about the lay up, thats where the strength lies. chinarellos are normally finished with a 3k weave and the geniune with a finer 1k.

Bud easier option. And cheaper would be to get a bottom headset cup like this.... It will raise the headtube a fraction as the bottom bearing will basicly sit under the headtube and not inside the headtube as it currently does but you will be able to use your existing fork.
