  1. It depends on the length/altitude-gain of the climbs/hills. The error factor is very high on small climbs especially since inertia plays a big role. On big climbs like mountain passes, power can estimated quite effectively.
  2. Suspect they are in the process of winding down.
  3. The problem with HRV is interpretation. It is not a case of more(or less) is better. It is all about context which includes things like life stress, anticipation for the race, moods, etc, etc, etc. For example at least one study showed that competitive cyclists performed better when their HRV was somewhat suppressed, which is not all that surprising when you consider that they were probably very psyched up. On top of all that HRV cannot be used directly. Instead it is fed through an algorithm, RMSSD is the most common but there are countless others like LF/HF. Long story short, it is complicated.
  4. You may want to read the original post I made. Namely you want to ingest sufficient carbohydrate SPECIFICALLY to prevent the other metabolic processes from producing carbohydrate as they will induce catabolism.
  5. You may want to read up on what hypoglycaemia is. Hint, if your blood sugar drops below a certain point you die. This is because your brain REQUIRES glucose or lactate as it's primary fuel source.
  6. Make sure you are eating enough complex carbohydrates. If you are not then your body will break down any incoming protein and existing muscle to manufacture carbohydrates which are critical for your survival (hypoglycaemia).
  7. Tough is very important when evaluating wheel choices in SA, more so than light. Go for the Zipp's, they are incredibly tough and Campag is a problem when it comes to spares.
  8. If you can buy direct then definitely go for that option. The product is brilliant and the Germany side of the service is very good. I had massive problems with the local agent a few years ago, the incorrect crank length was delivered. The saga went on for ages until I wrote a long but polite email to Germany detailing the situation. The local guy phoned in under an hour with more apologies per minute than you can keep track of. You could almost hear the beads of sweat hitting the ground. The issue was resolved quickly after that.
  9. The local agent in SA is terrible. I recommend you contact the head office in Germany.
  10. Angry ex-girlfriends are also an excellent source of news on anyone doping.
  11. Hyundai i10 with the back seat down and at a slight angle.
  12. Except that there are not many used tri frames in the classifieds section. Been looking for a while.
  13. Exactly. Carmen whats-her-name only got 2 years for EPO!
  14. It must be quite a serious violation or a repeat offender to get a 4 year suspension.
  15. Press down on the affected area with your thumb. Does it feel spongy or hard? Spongy = mechanical damage like an impact Hard = melted
  16. So what are you supposed to do when you encounter a pothole at +50km/h. Grit teeth?
  17. A rider crouches on top of the top bar with their legs under them during a decent, IE a substantial part of their weight sits on the pedals. He didn't go through a pothole on his descent, there are none currently on the Sandton drive mineshaft.
  18. Keep in mind that he was clipped in at the time so only part of his weight would have been sitting on the top tube. The thought of riding a frame that is so borderline would make me nervous. What happens if you hit a pothole or something like that?
  19. Or sitting on the top tube while in the starting pen. Half the guys are doing that.
  20. Sitting on the top bar while waiting and sitting on it to settle the head set are hardly unusual too. Sounds like they are making the carbon too thin to get the weight of the aero models down. Makes you wonder if they should raise the 6.8kg limit for aero models?
  21. The problem is not CL taking over CWC but rather Moregolf taking over CWC. CL was fine before Moregolf bought them out.
  22. Putting an RF transmitter or receiver inside a carbon structure is problem, it absorbs the RF energy. Caused massive problems with early timing chips and they are even on the outside.
