  1. Very sad... RIP
  2. Seeded in & starting at 6:20. The list of starting times can be found here: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/2018-cape-town-cycle-tour-start-times/ just in case anyone was actually being serious about being unsure about the groups.
  3. Thanks for the explanation. Didn't realise you could get the Tau for a ride, some experimentation is due.
  4. How did you determine the Tau for your W'Bal calculation? I can't seem to find clear instructions...
  5. TSS: 649 IF: .74 Time: 12h Recovery week
  6. Nothing is stopping Garmin from giving Navworld a test jig to do this at their own premises. This is exactly what Garmin is doing at their own office anyway. Whether Garmin has one of their guys do it or Navworld has one of their guys do it really makes very little difference. This is more likely a case of your everyday corporate manoeuvring, backstabbing, etc.
  7. Seems it has been brewing for a while already. Garmin really cracked down on Navworld when it came to replacing heart straps at least a year ago.
  8. Last 3 weeks: TSS 806 IF .75 TSS 853 IF .75 TSS 798 IF .73 A bit of recovery this week and then the tour of Mpumalanga starting this weekend.
  9. The marking of pot holes and road hazards deserves special mention. It was great to have "lead up" markings instead of just marking the hole itself. I was riding head down on the drops for a big part of the race and it was a life saver.
  10. Going to make cross-winds that much more exciting. A bit of a game of chicken.
  11. That was a great race. The strong wind shortly before the Hekpoort climb broke the bunch up a bit as well as taking a heavy toll on the legs. The venue was an improvement on the old one with the exception of the road out. If they can use a service entrance or something for the cars in the future then it would be perfect.
  12. Moral of the story, if you are going to go to CT for the CTCT then make a proper trip of it and do the Tour of Good Hope too! I did both and the CTCT being cancelled was just a minor inconvenience.
  13. It is not just the climbs, the decents are nerve wracking too.
  14. TSS 662 IF 0.71 Fairly easy week of base training with 6 rides.
  15. No such thing as a 'standard' length for a crank, it needs to match your body geometry. Namely height. 172.5mm and 175mm are both very common.
  16. The Garmin Trainingpeak applet has nothing to do with settings. It is purely to perform structured workouts uploaded onto Trainingpeaks, IE interval sessions. Works well for that purpose. PS. There is no way for a 3rd party app to access (read or write) the training zones on a Garmin. I have tried.
  17. Don't think that all the results are up yet.
  18. Results on RaceTech are up.
  19. Some guys took real chances on the last few km in AL. An absolute tjop attempted to plough through a gap that did not exist on the final sprint and nearly took me out. Ended up swerving hard to the right while I tried to regain control of the bike. Thankfully there was nobody in the way when I swerved like that.
  20. While photo 1 is not a shot of the action, it certainly is very striking.
  21. Can't believe there is such a debate over this. The commissars say it is a no go so we don't race. That is how it works. They decide if we do or we don't, that is their job. Simple as that.
  22. The real money is not in the entry fees. It is in all the other expenses of the people visiting: Accommodation, dining out, coffee shops, etc And seeing as many of the poorer people are employed in the service industry, it directly affects them.
  23. This is why you do the Tour Of Good Hope as well, if you are coming from out of town. At least you will get to do some solid racing even if a day or two is claimed by the weather.
  24. I tried doing without but lost the plot on the final climb. Ended up getting some water from a lady who was supporting her husband from the side of the road. My guardian angel!
