I currently have one of those shimano brake and shifters that are one unit. - the brakes as cable disks. I want to upgrade to juicy 5 brakes - which mean i have to buy new shifters. Will it be a waist of money to just buy 8spd shifters (currently have 8 speed cassette) or can i so long buy 9spd shifters, install them on my 8spd cassette and Derailer and later on buy a 9spd cassette. any advice please - keep in mind that my budget is limit

i have a mongoose tyax elite - also bought it from sportsman. For me it was a nice entry level bike - i can not complain about it. but i am no expert. You can also look at the silverback oakland 2010 model. they go for around R2200 or the merida matts 20-v they go for about r3200. It all depends on your budget but for around R4000 you can find a very decent second hand hardtail... which in most cases would be a better bet

HI and welcome to the hub and the darkside of cycling ... i do not have much info on training etc for you - also just started about 4 months ago. How is your bike? do you like it and are you satisfied with it? I am looking at the same one for my girlfriend who also wants to start mountain biking. ang good luck and enjoy I am very happy with the bike granted i have only done 80 or km's with it(still very early days) ' date=' i have had no problems at all . But all i said i am still a newbie and have not tried lots of bike . The appealing thing was the price as it was R500 cheaper than the 2009 model at other bike shops and the look was majorly upgraded from the plain silver 2009 . My thoughts were for just over R2100 i cant really go wrong . The mother of pearl paintjob looks great and although not 100% practical i just give it a good clean after each ride .
