  1. Thug, Regardless of the distance of a race, on or off road the timing equipment needs to be there. 50k MTB race probably take just a long as a 100k road race for the average Joe. The timing company is there pretty much for the whole day. I agree that the cost are a bit steep but can you imagine doing the 94.7 MTB race with 20,000 people because the entry fee was R5. If they cap the number of entries per race we would all be complaining that we could never get into an event. I guess its the cost of the equipment that is being recouped and then peoples time, route markings etc, etc, etc. Maybe we should all put our money where our mouths are and buy some timing equipment and do a "FREE" annual MTB and or Road race for Hub members only. We can then appreciate the time and effort it takes to organize an event and then comment, Who knows Maybe a 100 bucks is CHEAP??? firefox2010-01-26 02:56:18
  2. < ="-" ="text/; =utf-8">< name="ProgId" ="Word.">< name="Generator" ="Microsoft Word 12">< name="Originator" ="Microsoft Word 12"><> I went out to Teak for the first time on Saturday. I have read a lot of what people have said about the Cradle residents the Cyclists that use the Cradle route etc. I got there just before 7am, Shortly afterwards I hear this shout..."MOVE OVER" from some guy hanging out the back window of a car as they drove past a group of around 10 cyclists. So much for being in the quiet country side. On my way back I had the "pleasure" of driving past the cyclist using the road. Some polite, one guy waved as I took a "wide birth" past him, some guy completely oblivious to my presence as he "could only" have been out drinking the night before and had STILL not sobered up as he was all over the road......he was on his own so maybe he had fallen asleep. I then came up to a group of 4 guys, white solid line coming up a hill. These guys were driving in what I term "the car group" 1 bikes where each on your car tyres would be. I sat behind them for just over a kilometre so I have sneaky suspicion they knew I was there but they would not budge so I did what I had done to all the riders before and went past them on the other side of the road. I also did a short stint on the road back to Teak as I had to cut my MTB ride short and hang on there was a distinct ?cycling? lane. Fair enough there was no ?yellow paint? to distinguish it but there was a ?very distinct? colour difference which was more than wide enough for me to ride on. How far that goes on for I could not tell you. This was my first experience out on that road and from what I can see the ?Car drivers? and the ?Cyclists? are just as bad as each other. We are lucky enough to have a road to cycle out into the ?wilderness? and the ?residents? are lucky enough to live in a very beautiful part of the world, pity it can?t be done in harmony.
  3. Agreed Gasping, Comfort goes a long way to an enjoyabe ride. Components can always be upgraded and I guess thats where the additional cost comes in to it. firefox2009-12-18 03:46:22
  4. Yes, correct, buy a Stumpie.
  5. Carry a JO-JO on your shoulder.
  6. Keep your line, if the guy behind is faster then he can spend a few seconds on "kitty litter" to get past. If he is faster then he is probably a better rider and he can deal with the rougher ride better than you.
  7. Dollar, I drive an SUV, its called a VW touran. It is a lot wider than it is high has heaps of space inside, goes like hell and handles anything you can throw at it, on and off road....and no it's a straight forward front wheel drive 2x4. Just becaus ether "may" be one bad apple out there does not make them all like that:)
  8. 1.87 and have a large. Very comfortable on the bike.
  9. Gasping, What comapny?

  13. Cateye Mity 8. http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/255
  14. Try These. A lot of hubbers have bought and they are good value...I think anyway. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=67579&KW=sunnies
  15. Carry a spare tube and use the self glue "plasters" Much quicker. I inflate the tyre to find the hole and then deflate to about 30%.
  16. Its my birthday:) Smarties PLEASE
  17. I ride with my MP3 in one ear. If I am in a pack and need to concentrate a bit more on what is going on then I take it out and put it back later. If the racing snakes are flying past the slowbies then .....what are you doing there in the first place??? Enjoy the sights and SOUNDS of JHB, looking forward to the drag up the M1.
  18. It does not realy make much difference, when the road is greasy and you start to slip and slide there is pretty much only one outcome. Slicks will make your ride easier but I doubt they are much safer.
  19. Maybe set up at the waterfall estate next year, couple of big tents incase of rain. Some outdoor stands and bike demo's etc???
  20. Done 3 and 1 MTB, so this year it will be 4 and 2:)
  21. I doubt you are the first and I am sure there will be many more......

    cow suit

Maybe you are all missing the point. Maybe CHOC are saying you get to X rand and we give you a Cow suit so that everyone knows how well you have done. IE you stand out, you have made a difference. I am sure you can go buy a R10 Choc sticker andput it on your bike and "ride for them" But not many will see that sticker. Chucky, good luck Bugger and hope you have a great ride.
  23. FPC in Paulshof are friendly guys and helped me choose my bike after looking for quite a while. However took the bike for a service and got it back with oil on the grips.
  24. I have not done the MTB route but will be doing the 4 day 3 night hike in the same area in April 2010. We will be sleeping in tents not huts so should be a great experiance.
  25. Go and test ride a few bikes and choose 3. Decide from there. Each bikes geometry is slightly different. I say get the most comfortable bike, you can always upgarde components but you can't buy comfort. firefox2009-10-29 07:55:21
