  1. Some DIY repairs. The blue handle threaded rod stripped so was unable to clamp the frame. Builders Warehouse fix. 60 bucks for a meter of rod and some nuts & wing nuts, along with washers got it working again. Even got spare cuts of rod cause had to buy a meter of rod. I'm sure the OEM would have charged an arm and leg for a new clamp. ???? ParkTool stand will come one day when I'm big, for now this will do. ????
  2. I used to have the 1x10 setup. Shifted well. It just worked. I would buy the components for a budget build. Gave no issues.
  3. Sunday solo gravel ride. Vaal Dam to Grootvlei loop. Mostly gravel. Wind was quite crap in the area. Riding straight into it. Fun was had. Peace and quiet... Farmers greeted me when they passed in their bakkies. All was good.
  4. Satori Suspension Seat Post for the gravel bike - Hopefully it smooths out the corrugations. Rode off a little kerb (while seated) in my complex, it felt smooth....definitely better than the standard alloy post it replaced. I'm sure once i do the tubeless conversion and get a better saddle, all of this will come together to make a more comfortable ride. Time shall tell. Looks good to me too, like a mini dropper post.
  5. Grootvlei to Vaal Dam (Vaal Marina) - Gravel Ride
  6. Braamfontein Spruit to the top of Northcliff Hill and back.... Full range of cassette was required to get to the top. Lol Views were worth it!
  7. Wheres the Covid-19 Budget bikes?
  8. Found myself in PTA North for work, came across a LBS... Picked up this SRAM 38t chainring for R240... Was going to order from csixx and that would have been at least triple the price... Feeling lucky. Lol. Will work for my 1x flat bar gravel grinder.
  9. Bike parks are busy in general nowadays... I skipped modderfontein because I've heard of the long lines... Instead took the long drive from Midrand to Cowhouse, there it was busier than usual... Got back in car and went to Rosemary Hill.... There too, busy. Lol... Just ended up riding there otherwise I would have driven the whole of gauteng. People must be careful not to congregate in parking lots, draws unnecessary attention.

I inquired about the route, in terms of access...turns out its available to access all year round. I was under the impression that some portions might run through PVT property and that MUNGA organizers made arrangements with land owners when developing the route...Not the case. One can ride the route any time as its basically all public roads.

Its on their Facebook page...Event page. Respond on their for numbers and then you just rock up. Think you will only need to fill out an indemnity form and that's it. No fees or anything. Downloaded the route, i think it is about 104km with about 850-900m elevation.
  12. 2 Quick questions on these bikes, been quite keen on getting one. 1) Is the left shifter a 2x just obviously without a shift cable installed? 2) Are the wheels tubeless ready?
  13. Does the route seem safe to do solo? But i suppose nowhere is really safe nowadays...What gearing you running? I want to do gravel riding but i feel my mtb is not geared for that so it wont be so great...would spin out quick with my 32t up front.
  14. Hennops MTB Trail debut appearance here - Climbs were quite tough but views and downhill dashes were fun. That downhill portion after "Snake" (or maybe it is part of "Snake") requires some focus or else you will find yourself rolling down the rocky hill and i don't think anyone will be able to get up alone once at the bottom...if you got no medical aid, Kalafong Hospital is your name or you rolling straight to Jesus location.
  15. Preach on brother - There's troubled souls out there like me who need to fulfill this need.
  16. At the moment i can only really afford one bike, but now I'm questioning myself on my current HT MTB...for the way i ride and what i like to ride it seems like i need a Gravel bike
  17. Biogen bottle from Dischem for 30 bucks works like a boss, go 2....spout opens, you take a sip and put it back in your cage. What more do you need? Cycling is expensive, wherever we can save, we must do so. There's other accessories and components where we cant really afford to skimp.
  18. That accessory list...Wow. lol. I can understand for the helmet and shorts, i think those 2 are real important. I got my R500 Darcs from Sportsmans for like 4 years now with the different lenses, still happy with it...That would leave 2k to buy the next higher spec bike...the 2k could be the difference between getting a coil shock vs the next level, an air shock...Thats more important than the Oakley...As a newbie you go over the bars, face first and shove your 2.5k Oakley into your face when you could have had hydraulic brakes instead. lol #Eish

Will there be a Mini Munga in GP? I'd like to try ride such a distance. Usually only do shorter distances because strapped for time....Munga Event, one day when my legs are big. lol
  20. Why did i open this thread....now i want a gravel bike
  21. What are these trails like? technical? elevation? I stayed close to these trails for few years but never ever tried it out. Time to try it out.
  22. Upgrades fitted. SR Suntour Raidon RLO and stans crest wheelset with 3.30 hubs. I like the white spokes.... Just from lifting the bike can feel there was plenty weight saving. Coil Zoom fork and the No name wheelset is heavy.
  23. Just collected a used Signal S940 2020 model. Still looks like out the box plus previous owner upgraded the cable brakes to hydraulic. Just my luck. I opted to spend less on a bike in order to use remaining cash to upgrade the way I'd like. I could have just dumped 15k into a new bike and that would be the end, but didn't want to do that. Next up I plan to replace the cheap Chinese 28mm coil fork on here with a Suntour Raidon 32 air and may put a stans Wheelset. Got the fresh bontrager set up tubeless. Bike comes with a L-Twoo 1x10 drive train. Online reviews of their components seems good... I'll give it a try, perhaps later in the year 1x11 kits will become cheaper and I will get that. It's red, so it's fast... Its work in progress. Haha
  24. Got me an Oval Nw 32t chainring yesterday [emoji3] plan to convert from 2x10 to 1x.....going to ride it with the standard 11-36 cassette and see how it goes, I ride a 650B. I hope it works out Sent from my E2303 using Tapatalk
