  1. I would absolutely not ride there at any time of the day - I used to do it 3 or 4 times a week but anecdotally it appears that there is no safe time at the moment
  2. I see you were just about on the podium there....
  3. Quite pleased to have missed that cos I still had to ride back to Southern suburbs after. Ended up being a big day out but I definitely have the sense that I'm outgunned in Cat 2 - even though that first lap was slow .... I think for Atlantis I'll sign up for Cat 3 - I think I'm allowed to do that? Probably have to buy another number.
  4. That was the traffic cop parking her bike across the tracks to "warn" about the tracks. By the time we came through in cat 2 (you overtook us just before that) they were yelling at each other about who's fault it was. I let gomof the group there having decided to do only one lap and helped a guy from cat 3 with his puncture and he told me it was definitely the cops fault. But they were skelling mekaar lekker for sure. Her bike was stuffed and so was the cyclists. Didn't look.like anyone was hurt. I enjoyed the lap with cat 2 who dawdled along with one or two efforts. The ladies wouldn't let me downgrade so .... just a fun morning out. I'll definitely do.more of these WP races. They feel safer than the fun rides.
  5. Thanks for the update
  6. On reflection i have decided to.downgrade to cat 3 and do the but I'll ride to and from the race. They way I get my racing thrill without having to do.a second solo lap and satisfy my TITS requirements.
  7. Of course these things are subjective but I do feel a noticeable difference on the gp5000. Plush and more responsive are words that come to mind. I feel faster on what I glamorously call my racing tyres. Whether I am or not who knows. I'm still a 93kg mamil getting dropped out the back of whatever seeding group I've bust my ass to get into. My perception of the effect has me convinced enough to be hoesing for a new pair of gp5000 to wrestle onto my rims before the upcoming tour du Cap.
  8. That's what I feel about this race - loved the one I did a few years back but it's a big logistical effort - strangely feels more logistical load than trans baviaans although they both point to point - Still - the FOMO is real
  9. I see what you did there ---
  10. OK OK...I can't resist the dad joke .... is this your only fans page?
  11. Nothing quite like taking the wire bead gatorskins off and putting the brand new gp5000 on and suddenly feeling like you're just that much better of a rider
  12. There is no way that physio is a waste of money for me- every injury I've ever had has been improved and my recovery expedited and made complete by the treatments and explanations of the biomechanics behind my body's adaptation and compensation to injury. My reflex when a professional tells me that another professional's interventions are a waste of money is distrust.
  13. My hip surgery was in Knysna and when I followed up with the ortho back here in CT he told me that he does better out of MTB riders than he does out of cars, rugby and motorbikes combined. It may have been hyperbole but if you ride a bike, chances are you're going to be told, "Surgery then 6 to 8 weeks and do your physio exercises".
  14. A gravel bike is doable for sure especially since every year I've done it the descent of Rooiberg has got smoother BUT .... I will be there on my 100 mm travel dual suss XC bike and not my gravel bike.
  15. This guy put me back together superbly. I can't hammer a nail in straight, he put 3 MOFO screws into my bone with utter precision through a minuscule hole in my hip .... cost a fortune but I don't begrudge a cent cos without that expertise I would be a lame old mamil hobbling about the place with a crooked gait and all sorts of pain.
  16. Left femoral neck - non displaced fracture after stupid mistake at knysna trail center in 2017. An interesting walk down the trail using my old Merida as a crutch. Modesty dicktates ... I mean dictates.
  17. How many stairs did you jump?
  18. Probably about 250 riders? So many punctures coming through paarden Eiland. Thanks to the guys who stayed with me.
  19. It's a first attempt at rallying support in the community of cyclists. We all going to ride Sunday anyway so it costs nothing to do it. Maybe it's the first of a series of these rides - maybe they build momentum to the point where it attracts attention - whatever the case - at minimum its a bunch of riders moving through the affected area - it may be a low level message expressed in a soft voice but as @Jbrsays its something.
  20. Whoever it is that's involved and whatever the arrangement is, it's the only tangible thing I can do and the only thing beyond verbiage and social media posts that's been organized so I'm in.
  21. I think they partner samsun calendar app that pulls the info from Google calendar.
  22. I have countdown widgets on my cell phone home screen to all the major events I'm riding in the next 6 months. If I don't ride I don't feel good so I ride as much as possible. I love the feeling after smashing out a hard effort in a zwift race for an hour. I love how quiet my head is after 100 mile rides.
  23. Are ebikes allowed on the 50 miler?
  24. Well I've taken the plunge last night and entered cat 2 so I predict I will be dropped fairly quickly which as I say .... I don't really.mind. It's supposed.to.be LSD for 6 hours in the training plan so .... This is also what happens if you leave a mamil alone with his laptop and a credit card after 2 gin and tonics ... I'm surprised there isn't more chat here about these events though.
  25. If I owned that bike it would be called the highlighter in my strava profile. I quite like it actually, it's retro.
