  1. Me and the wife had a great time at the event today. We did the 80km and will definitely be back next year. Stunning views and great gravel.
  2. I am missing the consolidated location where you can open and see all the current events and choose what race you want to watch and, boom there you go. Often I just opened the app and started to watch a race I did not know was on, it was fun watching the races all over the world. Now you have to first know what race you want to watch, then find the provider who is broadcasting that race and then hope you can watch it with the right app and VPN and some internet dance so it does not buffer. I miss GCN+ it had it issues but it was simple to the point and worked.
  3. Thanks for the energy, gave me a good boost for the last few km to push hard.
  4. The whole event was well organized and run. Loved the Trilogy, and think it has huge potential to grow in numbers. I did it on my MTB but believe this is truly a gravel race and if you could swap more tar for dirt roads it would be great. This is not a complaint just a comment. With all the chats along the ride I am sure the Trilogy is going to blow up next year everyone loved it. Also not sure how possible it would be, but a longer route might also be an option, this is a fast route, not a bad thing, but a extra 15-20km section might add that bit extra spice to the ride. This is my perspective, have to say i did finish in the top section overall and I am quite fit so others might not feel the same. Overall a top ride and will definitely return next year.
  5. I have to be a fool as I keep on going back to my weather app to see if the weather has changed. And yes it did BUT THE WRONG DIRECTION. I am now a firm believer that if I stop going to look it will come down again. Not going to check it again I promise.
  6. Will be my second time, wish I still had the blissful feeling of not really knowing what this ride is all about and approaching it with zero reference to any other event. This time round now I am second guessing everything I did to prepare, even tho I have done more and better prep than last year. I have this feeling that you are never in full control of this race, that potential ACE up the Atta's sleeve is making me worry. This race seems to create many legendary stories, of great efforts both physically and mentally. The best part of the event is to ride along side new friends/brothers motivating each other, all working hard to reach that end.
  7. Yip i enjoyed their commentary way more than the current rubbish. There was some talk about the new guys placing more cameras on course, which is nice but the current commentators are butchering everybody's names, it is just painful sometimes to listen.
  8. I think the bigger questions is, what will DSTV broadcast via cable or even stream. I am not sure the move from GCN+ to Supersport will be a straight like for like content move. Would be nice if DSTV would make some sort of statement regarding their commitment and plans.... we are allowed to dream some times.
  9. This is quite sad, never used to watch other cycling than the Redbull mtb XC, and then stumbled on to the last week of the 2022 TDT, since then we got the GCN subscription with a vpn and started to enjoy so much more cycling, track, cyclocross, other road races and the documentaries. I hope there will be a way to still get the same access to these events somehow. I am not convinced local broadcasters will broadcast even 15% of the content that was available on the platform.
  10. Its so sad, for Louis. He was starting to climb up on the positions, and had hope for a big day today for him.
  11. Wow what captivating read, truly a massive effort both physically and mentally. Congratulations in completing this ride within your goals despite all the weather conditions fighting you. I would want to say this is inspiring but then it could possibly mean that I might want to do this at some stage ... I have 3 more years till I turn 50 I tell myself.
  12. I sat and watched the race with huge admiration at the hard work @Sid the Sloth did in the group. There is absolutely no Sloth in any of his riding. Hats off to the amazing ride.
  13. What a final between these two guys. This is setting the stage for an amazing battle on the road this season.
  14. Wow that pace of the men's race was insane. Pity it did not end in a good sprint, would have been fitting.
  15. Both the ladies and men's races was good to watch. The track looked brutal tho, hats off to all those that completed. Wonder how many of them will ride tomorrow and what toll today's' ride would have taken.
  16. Sunday 04 December round 11am I picked up a asthma pump on the red section just after part one of Kaapzicht Killer. Near the bottom of the first downhill before you get the right turn. I saw the cartridge alongside the road and then found the housing a few meters further in the vineyards. If someone lost their pump you can let me know.
  17. Did the half this year as my first event. Might go for the full 360 depending if the wife wants to tag along then I will be doing the half again this time with the wife.
  18. Novice TDF watcher here and lots to learn. Can someone please explain the decision behind the following event. All the riders in the last pileup before the finish was given the same time as the peloton, whether they fell or was just held up. This being in a race where time is used to decide the overall winner. My question is why do they get the same time if they did not finish with the bunch? I understand the crash might not be the riders direct fault, but did he not choose to ride at that position, thus should accept the good ( nice drafting in the headwind) and the bad ( a blockage in the road) that comes with the position where his riding? Is that not why teams fight for position early on, to try and avoid such problems at the finish? Is this not the nature of sports/luck? In light of the crash before the bridge, the EF Education guys had to work very hard, dropped riders from the peloton to go get their team back to the main group. Together as a team they recovered from a bad situation, knowing their main rider's GC hopes would be gone if they did not get back to the bunch even if this is only stage 2 of a long multi stage race. Should this not be the same philosophy for the crash before the finish? Find your team leader get him up and riding asap and then the rest can follow as they only support their main rider?
  19. Will I be able to ride these trails on a gravel bike, my brother is visiting from out of town and wants to go ride somewhere in this area.
  20. Nice one! Crossing the road does pose a risk and the cars dont always look out for the bikes
  21. I have been riding here on my own for the last year, once or twice over the weekends as time permits and I have not had any problems what so ever. I have seen plenty of other solo riders of both genders on my travels over the 3 years. I must commend the trail guys in constantly upgrading / developing the trails and always upping the fun factor.
  22. 10 Jan 2015 https://www.bikehub.co.za/stolenbikes/40-specialized-sworks-29er-2013/
  23. I picked up a mini pump on my ride this morning on the new single track on the red route at the pine forest. Pm me if its yours.
  24. Its a sad sad day for South Africa! R.I.P, a truely South African hero, legend and Ambasador. As said by a previous poster "You will be missed but never forgotten."
  25. Just a heads up. After completing my ride yesterday I found under my sock's seam. There is some patches with long grass on the green route and guess I picked it up there. Just check when you are done riding, tick fever is no ones friend.
