  1. Good evening all. I must confess that tonight is the first chance I have had to get online and "hub". I am deeply concerned over what I have seen. The matter is being discussed with PPA and a formal statement from the event will follow. On a personal note it saddens me when so much hard work is laid waste by the actions of the selfish few. I don't think many of you realise what goes into hosting an event of the nature of Die Burger Fietstoer. Most of the team were on the fields the whole week-end and very few had more than an hour or two's sleep before the event started. We were all there cleaning up while everyone else was watching the cricket late afternoon, I cannot accept that cyclist have so little respect for their own lives let alone others as to behave in the manner as is shown in the pictures. It is easy to expect the organisers to police the issue and effect disqualifications!! Quite frankly I find this unacceptable. The manpower requirements for an event of this nature are massive and to expect any organiser to lay on even more people to take numbers of every transgressor is totally impossible. In short what we are doing is penalising the organisers because, we as cyclists, fail to obey the simplist of rules. Come on guys start playing the game and at least have the decency to obey the single most important rule of them all - Stay left of the white line Many lessons were learnt from this last week-ends event and we look forward to improving the event for 2008.
  2. Its a pleasure to be able to assist. Pat is a wonderful woman and an extremely valuable asset to our team. The organising team will all be wearing ribbons on Sunday to show solidarity with the cause. If you are around at the registration late afternoon give me a buzz. Really sad I cannot ride... but thats what happens when you oganise!
  3. Morning Hagar
  4. Hi All. News from Swellendam, the DC route is clear and all is ready for tomorrow. NO DETOURS required. Good luck to all of you... spread the word!!!
  5. Update: BMC: we will send out an sms this evening to all entrants that supplied their mobile numbers when entering. This will be after 7pm The road between Ashton has be temp closed as a result of flooding and we are monitoring the situation. PS: as this will be my 10th DC I, like all of you. am most keen to see it all goes ahead. Stay tuned
  6. Notice will be posted on this forum and our website. However teams will be advised on the Start line in the morning of the situation. We are doing our best under the circumstances to keep everyone as informed as we can but as you will appreciate our fate is in the hands of Mother Nature.
  7. Latest news is as follows 1) The event WILL be taking place. 2) The road between Montague and Ashton is now open and we are monitoring the situation. 3) A final decision on whether to utilise the standby route or not will be made at 6pm this evening. 4) We have had to make drastiv chages to the start area as a result of the fields being water logged. The start will now take place in the road adjacent to the sports fields. The situation is being monitored on the ground in both Swellendam and Montague/Ashton.
  8. Nice Pics Ronelle... keep up the great work!!
  9. The boys did a superb job. The route was unbelieveably tough. If you look at the list of DNF's you will appreciate just how tough. Rob was sick and still recovering from an accident. The fact that David finished in the bunch at only 49sec's is proof of his talent. James Perry had an incredible ride and was haging tough until the last few laps. I cannot impress on you how tough the route was. Congrats to all of the guys you really were outta your boots. I think you can all rest assured that Dave will have a contract for the year ahead.
  10. Lomgbow thanks for your honesty as well. I am extremely interested to know exactly what these interests of mine are. I respect your view point and am sure that there are those out there that share your sentiments. It is however sad that you have chosen to hurl your insults from behind the cover of a "nickname". It is easy for you to cast dispersions without understanding the complexities of what it is we are doing and the enormity of the task at hand, should you or anyone else for that matter wish to fulfill the role I have been asked to, please feel free to give me a shout.
  11. MMMM you could be right!! Thinking of changing my colour. Could be he is just oblivious to some serious home truths!!!
  12. Thanks for your honesty Cyclemania. Would be interesting to know how you reached your conclusion.
  13. Hi all, The seeding event will take place this year. The fact that the Argus/Sanlam has left us is extremely worrying. There were in fact protracted discussions by the organisers with the sponsors to try and rescue the situation. The net effect of the loss of this event will be felt by all events in the pre xmas period. PPA are very aware of this and as mentioned previously are working to ensure a quality seeding event before the December break. Until all the i's are dotted and t's crossed I am not able to confirm anything. So hang in there.
  14. The Burger Monument ride is not, at this time being considered. However there will be a seeding event held before the end of this year to replace the old Argus/Sanlam event. Negotiations are at an advanced stage and an announcement should be made shortly. Watch press and this site for details. DavidB2006-09-15 09:16:03
