  8. Hey Shaun im just around the corner from Umhlanga... will give you a shout. Tx
  9. I don't know - maybe i'm adding my 2c worth - a far cry from the somewhat 9.8 million generated. ....... and maybe that's what we are just doing....
  10. QUOTE FROM THE ABOVE ARGUS LINK - "David Bellairs, co-director for the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT), which organises the race, said the Cycle Tour was about generating money for charity and for the development of cycling. "Last year we gave away R5.8 million to charity and for the development of cycling. The Comrades marathon is not a charity event," said Bellairs. So how's your bank balance this morning????? Great thing he is doing for charities and i commend that, but he also did include "the development of cycling". To me that means you - the cyclists as well. If it wasn't for you - cycling would be nowhere. Are there those dedicated cycle lanes yet? On average it takes R1m to build a 2 lane road, 1 km long
  11. Nice one Canaris
  12. www.sign-up.co.za
  13. @ Canaris - what you saying is true but at the same time - offering a bigger purse can possibly persuade overseas names to enter the local events more - which in turn will draw crowds as with Lance. .... Money in turn can still be given to charities and initiatives and be held for a good cause. There is no reason why our local races should not be of the same calibre riders as with races overseas, drawing more attention to SA as a top cycling destination. Tour d'Afrique??? Bigger purse - Bigger names - More Crowds - Better Exposure - Safer Roads - LESS MONEY TO ORGANISERS CAUSE IT SEEMS THEY ARE TAKING THE p!$$
  14. Closing down roads etc does take alot of money in order to do so and have staff man positions etc..... and volunteers help to a huge extent. But compare the Comrades to the Argus - The 2009 Comrades Marathon had 12890 entries @ R270 which equates to R3 480 300 versus Argus +- 38 000 riders x R240 = R 9 120 000 YET the prize money for comrades is R250 000 (not to mention how much more is generated for winning through sponsors etc) Also - the coverage of the comrades is somewhat 12hours of airtime compaired to how much of that for the Argus? Maybe P n p is supplementing their specials by taking the generated income? Something seems wrong - very wrong.
  15. Hi Mallo... is there a possibility that a small breakdown for the list of equipment needed etc for the race? I have no doubt it was expensive.... have held small events before so kinda know the costs involved but would like to see roughly what it would have costed for the Argus.... get to the bottom of this and provide the right info and provide clarity on this subject
  16. What now after all the black armbands were worn??? Continue wearing them! Wear them for your group / individual rides. The only way the message will get across is 1) if people can see them visually 2) the word gets around the cycle and general community. Surely quite a few will notice the fact that you wear a black armband and will enquire as to what it is for - just like a few guys would have asked you at the Argus? The word will spread by either visually seeing the armband and hearing about the initiative. Those are the two fundamental marketing tools and you have the power to spread the word. Joining the Sign-Up Cyclists Safety initiative will also do the part. @ shaunh - is there somewhere in KZN that i could be able to get my hands on a Sign-Up sticker? And when our brand is launched - i will gladly distribute for you in the KZN region. In the end - It all starts with you.

  20. Well ja definatley makes sense if you the pedestrian and the force of the hit..... not too sure on the theory if you the driver though..... ne ways..... maybe someone should mail Mythbusters enjoy the argus guys!
  21. WTF??????? Seriously? No man..... or am i just being helluva gullible right now?
  22. Listen....... tell me if im outta line here..... The fact is.... people on 2 wheels are getting knocked over...end of story. Noticing a comment earlier basically AGAINST motorcyclists..... what's the problem? In the end - you are still trying to fight for the same basic cause.... if people are going to carry on bickering about, cyclists, motorcyclists or drivers... this will never end - and it is hard enough as it is trying to get everybody to stand together and respect each other. At the end of the day - if you cannot respect your fellow road user - this will go nowhere and all the effort that has been doen and will be created is a lost cause. Everybody needs to take a back seat and re-evaluate their position on this earth, you are not better than than the guy next to you and nor is he of you. Calm the hell down on our roads - whether on 2, 4, 6 or 18 wheels - be courteous and remember that everyione has the right to use OUR roads. END OF RANT Maybe SignUp and Think Bike can join forces on this - and have a car initiative join them as well - because this is actually ridiculous.
