  1. Hi Have not used this parking spot. If you drive through Hekpoort over the bridge about 150m on your left there is a dirt road that leads to a farm. I park there. Cost R50.
  2. Agree it was great. I like the new section at the estate (Eye of Africa?).
  3. Please could somebody help with a GPX file for the "new" route? Thanks.
  4. Who doing it this year? Can we just join the 2016 365 for 365 group? Thank you.
  5. Have not heard of any problems parking at the garage. The last couple of years I have parked at the farm. Drive past the garage on your way out of town. Over the bridge and about 150m further on your left is a farm road. Ride up to the farm house. They do ask a fee - think its like R30 odd. I have found the Shebeen (on the other side of Breedts) closed at odd times. Might be a good idea to take extra water.
  6. I have done it a couple of times. Its a lot of gravel but its up Breedt's so it is rough. On the way back the last bit is single track. Would not make it my first race on a gravel bike but I have seen guys do it on gravel bikes.
  7. Have a look at this one - its new: http://www.bouttime.co.za/Events/event.aspx?EventId=486
  8. Was on my list to do next year but see its the same weekend as the 36One Challenge!
  9. Thanks Deon. That's quit a difference in min and max temperatures. My entry is paid for so no turning back!
  10. Thank you for the advice Maidenmole. I will have a support vehicle. Excuse my ignorance but could you assist with guidance in terms of a heat acclimation protocol?
  11. Agree. Lost my sense of humor with those short sharp climbs.
  12. That's a descent size lock forward! Nearly 22km/h...so I will see you at the start and never again.
  13. Thanks Sias and HMB3. Looks like I will take up the challenge but work is needed.
  14. I was considering doing the Nedbank Desert Dash in December ... until I read the comments on the previous years events! Now I'm not so sure. The question is will I be able to slip in under the 24 hour cut off? No use entering the solo event if I cannot meet the 24 hour challenge. I completed this years 36One in 28 hours. I spent 4 and a half hours at the water points. So I can save time by managing my time. The 36One has 5500m of gain and it looks like the Desert Dash has 3300m - so I can save time there. I am big and could loose 5kg by December - that will help! The 36One was done in good riding weather but the Desert Dash heat could be a problem for a fatty. I did this weekends Race to the Sun in 7:30. Am I biting off more than I can chew?
  15. Agree with DBAD just follow the other riders! We were at the back end of the field but there were always other riders in sight.
