  8. He did have some time on a demo/pre prod proto afaik, had a discussion at one of the launches and one of the S staffers mentioned it. Apparently, his testing feedback was that the new model is like a better more polished version of the previous Epic Evo. Would speculate that should also be taken in the context of a competitive race bike. Reckon Matt's pro moto background makes his feedback especially invaluable. Several brands launch their new models around this time, for eg; Liv, Cannondale, Bulls, Titan. Especially with Olympics around the corner. IMHO this makes for good timing alongside Cape Epic and a smart brand can use this to their advantage.
  9. Hi Im from Peru, 48 years old and my partner is not gonna make it,entry fee paid, accomodation at the hotel provided by the organisation is already paid, meals, etc. Can contact me at : 01 958314821 or kikerondon@hotmail.com
  10. Maybe a dumb question, but this is the SWorks super bike launched about 10 days before the epic, right? Did Matt get an advance model for training, or just jump on it after global launch and dial it in. if the second, then was the global launch get tied to cape epic date? Another dumb question, bike is not going to auction or whatever, this is his racebike now for the season (granted he's on a gravel program too)?
  11. The Cannondale Scalpel has been a staple on cross country and marathon podiums since 2002. Today Cannondale launch an all-new design. Featuring improved suspension kinematics and more aggressive and capable geometry, which has already been race proven by Candice Lill & Mona Mitterwallner at Cape Epic, we expect to see plenty on the trails. Check out the full press release below: Scalpel has always been out front Ever since the first one proved that dual suspension could be faster than hardtails way back in 2002, Scalpels have always led the way. Moving XC forward. Defining what cross-country will be, not […] View full article

  15. another thing. remember the Cape Epic fantasy league? imagine having to pick the ladies field with it being so shallow? https://www.facebook.com/capeepic/posts/the-absa-cape-epic-fantasy-league-is-live-on-the-bike-hub-make-your-predictions-/10156348334238319/ 4th place is 10+mins back, 6th is almost half an hour off GC (in contrast, GC mens have still got 9 within 10mins).
  16. Commentator suggestion for 2025 Cape Epic. Bart Brentjens should team up with Rob Warner like the good old UCI days. (Bart wil probally be racing epic next year though) Rob can get sooo excited about the timing splits on the downhill races.
  17. “From a crazy idea in an adventurous young man’s mind to the world’s most prestigious mountain bike stage race, the Absa Cape Epic celebrates its 20thedition this month. 19. We’re suckers for hype, and the Epic route launch is something that inevitably has us speculating around the (virtual) water cooler. Without further ado, here’s the press release detailing the full route for the ‘Tour de France of mountain biking’, the 2024 Absa Cape Epic: This year riders are set for an epic action-packed 8 days consisting of 16 850 metres of climbing, packed into 613 kilometres of racing The twentieth edition and it’s test of tenacity has once again attracted the world’s best, forging a reputation as a rite of passage for all mountain bikers. The unforgiving yet breathtakingly beautiful […] View full article

  21. Sarah Hill. She is currently in Cape Town for Cape Epic. Not sure when she will be going back to Johannesburg( she resides there). You can probably contact her on Instagram.
  22. Cape Epic or any race / ride doesnt define if you a real Mountainbiker, road or gravel rider etc. You need psychological help if this is your thought pattern or belief.
  23. I'm from Europe and rode and finished Cape Epic in 2023. I'm still baffled by the fact 80 teams had to give up during and before stage 2, mostly because of Gastrointestinal illnesses. This is not due to people being weak, that mostly happens after more race days. There must have been a real source of contamination somewhere. I'm used to race multiday stage races all over the planet for more then 15 years and know how to look for myself (joberg2c, Swiss Epic, Alps Epic, Breck Epic, Transportugal...). I also took probiotics before hand. We also struggled a lot in the night of day 1 and day 2 and started day 2 with a lot of doubt whether we could finish. We didnt slept at all due to being sick and the howling wind. We started day 2 as being tourists and in the end we finished the stage successfully. The next days we had better legs and stomachs but our appetite was gone for the rest of the race and the ****s remained for 4 more weeks (!). We had to ride through a cowshed in the prologue. And also through a lot of farmland on day 1. That could have been a potential source of contamination. We didnt use the water in the race village up until we got sick because we still had bottled water in our tent. Only possible contaminated water source could have been the water point. Another possibility could have been the after race dinner. Which had a lot debatble choices throughout the week. Since we never got real hungry anymore the rest of the days we skipped most of it. When using the facilities I always had hand spray with me. I was checked by doctors almost every day from day 3 onwards if it was still safe to race. Kudos for them for being so patient. Back at home I was diagnosed with Enteroinvasive Escherichia coli. Which I suppose most people had. You can avoid all of the above by going fully "Pro" and avoid the race village/food/aid stations all together, but we are just working people and the price for the Epic is already ridiculously overpriced that this not an option for the majority of the people. I guess sometimes it's just down to bad luck, because we really tried to avoid this.
  24. The number of social media influencers in the event has definitely increased. The number of people incapable of riding a mountain bike over anything remotely technical has also increased but these have always been part of the event. I don’t think it’s easy to point at one particular cause for higher drop out rates the last three years other than COVID. we can’t prove that having disposable income equates to incompetent MTB skills you’d think that they could buy that also although one cannot buy commitment. we can’t prove that riders are less capable whilst being offered bikes with lower slacker longer attributes that makes anyone a Danny Mccanskill. we do know that covid has hit everyone globally with effects not well understood. If we consider the 2016 cape epic used a similar route to 2024, had longer stages in more adverse temperatures whilst suffering a lower drop out rate of riders on steeper angles bikes with narrower tyres and longer stems then it is clear that 650B was a far superior wheel size…
