Solid-Reverse Factory Racing Team’s Stefan Garlicki (sponsored by Investec) took the Elite Men’s title and fastest time of the day at the Helderberg Trails in Somerset West for the Western Cape Downhill Provincial, which doubled as the first round of the South African National Cup Series, at the weekend.   5. Stefan Garlicki (Investec) won Round One of the South African National DH series at Helderberg Farm on a testing track on Sunday 28 February. Garlicki made it two-from-two at the venue (he won Round One of the 2016 Western Province Downhill series there two weeks ago) when he beat Jonathan Philogene and Johann Potgieter with a time of 02:53.277. The most memorable moment of the day was for Junior Christopher Philogene, when he beat the time set by multiple World Champion Greg Minnaar and took the overall men’s title.   9. Stefan Garlicki (Investec) won the first event in the 2016 Western Cape Downhill series held at Helderberg trails on Sunday 14 February, in a time of 02:49.213. The 2015 South African National Downhill Mountain Bike Champion edged out Andrew Neethling (Polygon UR) 02:50.680 and Adi Van Der Merwe (Solid) 02:59.314 - the only two other riders to go under the three-minute mark. Helderberg Trails offers a variety of quality trails for all mountain bikers. Helderberg has become a favourite amongst Cape gravity riders for its steep technical trails and big bike park features.   18. The 2015 UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships took place at Pal ski station, Vallnord (Andorra) from the 23-27 August.   20. Registration took place on Sunday, which resulted in a rather frantic dash around trying to get our international racing licenses printed. Somehow Mark, Cobus and I had not put two and two together, and the angry man and bewildered young lady at the registration table managed to firmly tell us that showing a picture of it on our phones was not good enough. Note to self: if the CSA say “should you wish to have this licence printed you need to pay another R30 etc etc…” just make the effort to pay the extra R30 and the courier fee.   22. After a year’s break, the resort in Trentino returns to the UCI World Cup calendar in 2015. It will be the final round, and therefore decisive for the XCO and DHI rankings. It will also enable the riders to put the finishing touches to their preparation for the UCI World Championships one week later.   23. The Val di Sole track in Italy is a brutally technical maiden. Packed with slippery roots and plenty of rocks, it drops steeply through the forest into the valley floor.
