Just wondering what tyres people use/recommend? Use Mountain kings here in the Isle of Man, but just wary of thorns rather than slate shards. light vs tougher but dont want too draggy. will need all the help I can get! Hopefully will be dryer conditions!!! Cheers

When I was reading through the Rules of Cape Epic, there is one rule that I don't understand. 14.1 "No rider may track the route via the use of GPS unit or by other means" It's really difficult to understand this rule. Does anyone know the reason for this?

has anyone tried it? i don't drink at all but having asked around I'm getting the impression that a wine that is a week old when it goes in the bottle isn't going to be terribly nice. i was really hoping that it would be grape juice so i could drink it. before i decide who to pass it on to, i was wondering if anyone has opened theirs? either i give it to someone i like or someone i don't see...

Anyone want to swap clothing sizes? I have a size Large shell jacket I want to swap for anything smaller - preferably a small. For some reason the one in my bag is a Large (despite everything else being the right size.) Jacket is still in the packet, unopened.

Stage 1 cut-off time was 10 hours, 2 teams have finished this stage in more than 10 hours but they can still keep going? How does it work? Tomorrow is 8.5 hours.

Hi Epic riders, I thought it would be interesting to start a tread on equipment choices for the 2014 Epic, in particular those of tires and pedals, given that bikes are very personal and/or sponsored. I am riding the Epic for the first time, but did 2 similar style ultra-marathons in 2011/2012 - the Brasil Ride 7-day stage race in Bahia - Brazil. They were completely modeled around the Epic and are now one of the 3 UCI-sanctioned ultra marathons together with the Epic and TransAlps. Outstanding race for those who love the Epic, and a huge selection of incredible single track in the middle of it all. Now for the choices, and already asking for advice from those who have ridden the Epic before: I am riding a 14' Epic S-Works 29, and have switched the Fast Track tires to a pair of 2.25 SnakeSkin Schwalbes - Rocket Ron front and Racing Ralph rear. What are you riding and do you believe this is a good pair for the Epic? As for the pedals, I have been riding with a Candy 11, but given the ease of reentry I will switch to EggBeater 11, what are you all riding? This event is ideal for a good betting challenge, so this is an attempt to create a concept that can add a bit more fun to the keyboard spectators and pundits amongst us. Pick a winner for each category, and then three teams for the podium in any order. Overall Winner - 5 points Podium - 2 points each African Jersey winner - 3 points podium - 1 point each Mixed Winner - 3 points podium - 1 point each Masters Winner - 3 points podium - 1 point each Ladies - 3 points podium - 1 point each stage winner (elite category) 1 point each. Morning Hubbers, I have just bought a GoPro and am trying to figure out the best way to mount it for rides up Tokai and Jonkers. I note that many Epic riders have GoPros mounted on the front of their handlebars but with what seems to be a custom made holder rather than the GoPro handle bar mount. Anybody able to shed light on this or suggest an deal mounting? Cheers

Does anybody know if riders are allowed to rider the prologue route in the week leading up to the Epic?

ive scoured the new epic website and i cant find anything about registration.. i assume itl be at the waterfront but if it is, when?
