    Hi, been to SA couple times, mostly CT, surrounding areas, Stellenbosch, Garden Route. This year, I want to bring my gravel bike. I'm wondering which routes around CT are most enjoyable so I can pick my accommodation accordingly. I ride a mix of gravel and tar, up to 100km/day and like to stop every once in a while to have a good coffee / glas of wine / meet other cyclists. Open to switch to Stellenbosch area if that makes more sense. Thanks for your suggestions! JT

    Anyone seen the new Wine Lands Regional permit? Bought one on Tuesday because it's very much worth it and to support the industry. https://winelandstrails.com/ This allows for access to over 700 km of mountain bike trails - Wine Lands Cycling Club - A2Z (Grabouw) - Helderberg trials (Helderberg/Somerset West) - Stellenbosch Trail Fund (Stellenbosch) - MTO Jonkershoek (Stellenbosch - Banhoek Conservancy (Kylemore/Pniel) - Franschhoek trails (Franschoek) - Paarl trails (Paarl) - Wellington Wild boar and Scouts (Wellington) Membership will be valid from 1 December 2021 to 31 December 2022. Adult Board 19 - 64 years - cost of annual membership R1500 Junior Board < 18 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Senior board > 65 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Such a great initiative - apparently it took 3 years to get all the parties around the table and to agree.

    Hi Guys. We are visiting the Stellies area from George this weekend. Just want to know if anyone has info on the XCO track used for the UCI Cup in 2018. I cannot seem to get any info on it, except that it is in Stellenbosch, close to or on varsity grounds? Will we be able to go and ride on it? If so do we have to buy permits and where?

    Three Stellenbosch University students – Hans-Werner Heuer, CP van Wyk and Max Sullivan – will be representing University Sport South Africa (USSA) at the international World University Cycling Championship (WUCC) 2016 to be held from 16-20 March 2016 in the Philippines. This achievement is even more significant considering the fact that the three-man team consists of Matie students only, selected at a recent USSA national cycling event hosted by Stellenbosch University and attended by seven South African universities.     As part of the Winelands region of South Africa, the greater Stellenbosch area features an abundance of trails, one of which is the Bottelary Hills trails network. Covering a total of 76km, these trails offer scenic beauty and incredible views of the winelands, Table Mountain and False Bay, and combines a variety of different elements to form a well rounded MTB destination. The network can be accessed from 7 different starting points, all of which sell day passes and something to eat or drink, and it also happens to be a few hundred meters from my doorstep.     It was back to Delheim, just outside Stellenbosch for the annual Dirtopia Delheim Enduro this weekend. As per usual, the race consisted of 5 fun stages, some with freshly built, loose and slippery single track. The tree tunnels and hard packed gravel/clay surfaces on stages 2 and 3 meant full aero tucks and seriously impressive speeds, naturally favouring the DH riders. With any event this time of year in the Western Cape, the relentless heat plays a role, but luckily we were blessed with a cool and cloudy day, perfect for racing. Click here to view the article

    To all cyclists using the R 304 passing Kayamandi outside Stellenbosch. Avoid Cycling past that area especially if you are cycling alone. I was passing there on Sat 22 February at 07H00am when I saw two suspicious characters moving towards me from the side of the road. As I was passing them the one started running towards me and tried to kick me off my bike! He got my back wheel but I managed to stay on and slip away from them. I was told by another cyclist that they managed to steal onother big guy's bike, who was also cycling alone on exactly the same spot about an hour later that day. These Bicycle hijackers are absolutely fearless and will attack anyone cycling alone as they usually work in groups of 2 or more. One will knock you off and keep you busy while the other one disappears with your bike. These incidents and attacks are increasing daily since the "bikejackers" know that our bikes are quite valuable. What can we do in terms of protection?
