Hi Everyone, I am fairly new owner of a Garmin Edge 1040 bike computer and for last couple of weeks struggled my butt off to keep my Edge 1040 paired with Garmin power meter and Garmin heart rate monitor. I often had to delete my Power Meter from devices list when I simply couldn't get the computer to "see" the power meter at start of ride, and then had to reinstall the Power Meter. Eventually when power meter is paired again, I often lost communication with power meter again within 30 minutes into the ride. Same with heart rate monitor, Edge would not necessarily show heart rate when I start a ride and I found it impossible to re-pair the heart rate monitor with Edge during the ride . It was not a battery problem on the heart rate monitor - same happened with fresh batteries. I never had this problem with Edge 830 that I owned for 3 happy years. I got so desperate that I wanted to return Edge 1040 to supplier and go back to my trusted Edge 830. Solution: After long internet searches I eventually found the problem: There seems to be something wrong with many of the Connect IQ apps. Many of these 3rd party apps do not get updated or simply interfere with the normal way that the Edge 1040 syncs and pairs with your devices. I had a few of these apps installed (big culprit was "Map Dashboard"). I deleted ALL connect IQ apps from my Garmin Edge and suddenly everything was back to normal again. Power Meter is picked up immediately when I turn the crank and heart rate monitor has never dropped out again ever since. So be warned - Be very careful installing any of those Connect IQ apps - they interfere with the way the Garmin Edge 1040 connects with your devices, Should you get sync issues and have Connect IQ apps installed, rather delete all the connect IQ apps and get your Garmin to work normal again. (Never had this issue on my previous Garmin Edge 830)! Safe riding! Pieter van Staden

After my second Garmin Edge 530 failed (the usual Altimeter/themometer/moisture error) and Garmin support ignored numerous attempts for assistance, I decided to take the plunge and replace it with another option. Wahoo was top of the list until I came across the Hammerhead Karoo 2. Managed to pick one up off the hub and well this little fellow has blown my mind... it makes Garmin and Wahoo feel like Nokia 3210's Still early days but seriously impressed so far

Good morning technie/touring Hubbers! Planning on doing more long distance challenges this year incl. longer Audaxes etc. Been interested in the Edge Explore for some time since it was known as the Touring, but cannot find any evidence that it is sold in RSA. Seems more geared towards the European touring market. Anyone have one/seen one?

Morning folks, I've started loading race routes/courses onto my Garmin. However I've noticed that it's not terribly accurate. From this weekend for example it told me that the first left turn only came after 37km, which most certainly was not the case. Also with F1, we know the first turn comes after approx. 10km, and it's quite an obviously left hander, but my Garmin did not acknowledge the existence of this turn. Who else has done this or has experience with this?

I always had to wait to get to a PC to upload my ride, obviously useless on a stage race or in the bush but I found and loaded Edgescope. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.fulvio.edgescope The blurb: Edgescope is an Android application to view activity data from any Garmin Edge GPS through the USB cable, simply get a micro OTG cable and upload and share your ride. It can load activity .fit files directly from your Edge device or from the file system. It shows main activity information, as well as the graphs and the map. You can also upload your activity on Garmin Connect and Strava sites from Edgescope. My experience: This free app has been a revelation, after my workout/ride I simply connect my Garmin to my phone via a OTG mico USB cable and select the workout from the Garmin. I can then view my ride through a simple summary screen: It is then possible to upload to Strava and Garmin connect by simply touching the screen. Additional screens show your route on a map (similar to a Strava map): or you can review the graphs of your speed, altitude or heart rate. It takes about 30 seconds to upload after a ride, so it's possible to do while waiting for the post ride coffee to arrive. But to do this you will need to carry the OTG cable on your ride. 10g extra weight. Once you upload to Strava, all the additional Strava functionality becomes available, as if you have used your smartphone. With one huge exception. ALL your data is loaded, accurately, not like the phone app where you are given extra metres climbing. I've used Edgescope since February, I can really recommend it if you have an Android phone and a Garmin Edge GPS.

Garmin’s relatively new Edge 1000 model has flown somewhat under the radar thanks to much of the current attention on the brand focused on their new Vector power pedals. As far as top level navigation and information devices go, users are currently spoilt for choice. Coming in at a recommended retail price of R10 599, the Edge 1000 is pricey.
