  1. I am looking for a replacement rear mech hanger for Mongoose Tyax 2010 frame. New or used in good condition
  2. So about a year ago I had the idea to start building a long travel hard tail general fun bike. I sourced a 2005 Scott Aspen frame, some Mavic 819 rims, a 130mm travel Marzocchi Drop-off a Woodman 20mm hub between Bikehub and Gumtree. Then this happened..I got hold of a cracked 2006 Mongoose Teocali Super Frame of the classified. Always wanting a Teocali, I jumped at the opportunity and bought it. The engineer in me was awoken and I got hold of an engineering firm suggested to me, V'd out the cracks and took her in to be welded: The firm, ended up heat treating the frame again for me to T6, and did this all for mahalla for me at the end. Thank guys! So the build could start..Decided to go with a raw frame, so I started to strip the three sections of the frame. While all this was happening, I sourced some more spares of the classifieds, GS Sports had my rims resprayed and rebuilt and had Tyrone make me some decals for the frame and rims. At This point, I relized that the Avid Elixir 5 brakes I bought of the classifieds were shot, and with the help of Droo/Revolution Cycles/Flaandria I got them sorted again. Next step was to add more white to the bike so I sourced some white ODI lock on grips from Bibi and reupholstered my seat to match sourced a few more parts off gumtree and the classifieds, had some new fork and crank decals made (not a pleasurable experience) and finally got her looking like this All in all very happy with the build, she rides like a dream. Been hitting Coetzenburg, Eden and Gspot with her a few times and happy with the end results. just want to tweak the suspension a bit, as the rear shock is leaking air. Now the next section will most probably get me flamed and burnt by the purist.. with the lack of 190x50 rear shock around, I plan to go 200x50 in the rear, and sourced a 180mm Marzocchi Bomber 66 RCV (still having issues with the fork I am sorting out with the seller) I want to reduce down to 150mm travel. Did a dummy fit the weekend and quite like the beefy look of the 38mm sanctions: Not much difference in length between the 140 Drop-Off vs the 180 bomber.. Feel free to drop a comment on my Frankenstein build. Will add more photos as the continuous mods keeps happening. Next planned mods: Fit a 200x50 Xfusion O2RL (maybe using offset bushings) Rebuild the Marzocchi 66 and reduce the travel to 150mm Changing the color scheme (need an excuse to visit BogusOne again) edit nearly forgot..need to source a 203 disc for the front as well.. Happy Monday folks
  3. Howdy Hubbers, First off, I'm going to ask silly questions, if you're unable to help, please don't comment with rubbish as I'm trying my first ever build since swapping BMX frames in high school. Right, so I have a donor bike which is a Silverback Sierra 26" (Assuming a 2010 - 2012 region model), I bought her used a year ago after my entry lever Silverback Slade 4 650b was no longer doing the trick for me and upgrading components would have costs more in the end, unfortunately the frame was a bit bent at the right chainstay (I bent her straight and rode like that for a year until now) Then this week, I bought a Mongoose Meteore Comp Frame 26" G7 alloy, the frame is in amazing condition but I have no idea of the year model. So in my innocence I assumed it would be a simple swap between two 26er frames, this was not to be as I found out after stripping the Silverback almost bare (excluding the BB as I'm still deciding on buying a tool or not) * My first issue I bumped into was the Seatpost Diameter - this was sorted by picking a used one up from a friend, easy peasy. * 2nd issue: The headset diameters seem to differ, the silverback is a 44mm and the mongoose looks like it used just over 41mm headset It never came with headset caps so now I need to know, where do I get caps from and do I buy new bearings too? When taking the old setup apart, the top of the headset used a cartridge bearing and the bottom had a loose pack bearing with a little plastic frame to hold them (this was a surprise as I spent some time hunting down all the bearings after them spilling out when I removed the fork) Can I at the same time "upgrade" the headset to take the cartridge top and bottom or do I stick to the current setup? There are also several of these metal and plastic o-ring type of things, should these be replaced too (and what order do they go back in, I forgot because I was chasing bearings across the floor)? Further upgrades I'm planning. 1. Upgrade rear derailleur to a Shimano Zee with a 10 spd shifter (on back order) 2. Upgrade to a 10 spd casette (will deore be fine or is slx the way, 36t or 34t?) 3. Ergo - fit bike setup and new saddle (looking at the WTB options) So that's where I'm stuck at the moment, where to go next, any other issues to look out for?
  4. Got jump yesterday in gordons Bay while taking a sunrise drive. Had no luck with the authorities so now Im on here.
  5. Good Morning Guys and Girls, I am looking for some advice from the suspension guru's. My current enduro/general fun bike is a 2006 Mongoose Teocalli Super. Current rear shock is a 190 x 50 Rockshox MC3.1. But she is not holding pressure. Now currently i am faced with three option, that is all going to cost about the same: 1) service the shock ( give it to Droo) 2) buy a secondhand MC3.1 ( off gumtree, still seem pristine) 3) buy a 200 x 57 Fox RP23 (listed in the classifieds) I measured the frame, and it can handle a 200mm eye to eye shock. If I am correct, the 10mm extra eye to eye length will allow for the extra 7mm of travel. Other than changing my head angle slightly, what else must I keep in mind? Current gear setup is 1x10 (Hope 32TNW with Shimano Deore 11-36 rear, SRAM X9 Type 2 derailieur) Will this extra travel affect my chain lenght/chain growth? Or can I just disregard it? Also, I am running a 140mm Marzocchi Drop off in front with no lock out. Will it be worth my while to replace the rear shock with a shock with lockout (Fox RP23)? Looking forward to your comments below

  8. Fellow brethren, behold! A neglected Mongoose I managed to salvage from a friend of mine. Any Idea how to get the chrome shiny again? Some elbow grease and Autosol maybe? Despite the condition of the frame, Its got some decent components. Gold Suzue high flange hubs with Sumo rims. Sugino Crank and flywheel A replica of the Kashimax Aero. Has a Raleigh sticker on the back And of course, a 'frulaati' bar and fork. Here's the serial for those interested Any comments are welcome. So are any offers on trades/ offer to purchase. Peace.
  9. Please help, I went riding today and my left crank arm snapped (SR Suntour Duro) I need a new crank arm and am also looking at getting a new bb, I want to get something strong and that will last, I'm not that concerned about weight. I don't have a particularly large budget but can save up, please help, my bike is a 2012 Mongoose Fireball.
  10. I am on the verge of buying a mongoose meteore team( from a folk who seems inept about mountain bikes judging from his responses to my questions). The bike is used so I am not sure which model year it is. I want to use the bike for trail riding and a bit of xc(if possible). It seems that it still has its original components. If there's anyone who currently owns this or have owned it, would you please kindly give technical info on the bike, original components, how it handles on trails and so forth. I suppose it's an old model(2008/9) and the components might be of entry level when compared to today's components. I also attached pictures for clarity.

  12. Hey guys, just posting on behalf of a mate who got robbed this weekend in the Bell Air area. He pretty much got cleaned out of all his Audio and Visual equipment as well as his bike. Its an oldish bike so hes not to clued up regarding the spec but the best we can do is say its a Medium Mongoose Otero Dual Suspension (Black). Please can anyone riding or driving in the area keep a look out to see if the bike pops up some where. if we can catch the guys who took the bike it could lead to the recovery of his house equipment. Any info please let me know or contact Greg on 082 363 5335
