Im curious as to how best approach this - its essentially 3 weeks to go till the start of this race and the past week I was struck down with flu, and today I start training again.

I plan to have a good 2 weeks of training (not just riding, some runs/gym/swims) but I feel I need to push fairly hard (try catch up some ground on the week lost), then take it easy (relative) for the last week. My goal is to finish and obviously do the best I can but as they say "fail to prepare and prepare to fail" - I am interested in how others would approach this scenario

2 Weeks of moderate training. You are not going to build any muscle on the last week. You are also not going to lose any of your fitness. Just keep the legs working with nothing strong on the last few days. The first day in Tokai should be a good start to your week of riding.

I'm in the same boat 1st epic etc, just not been sick! I am riding Argus so taking this week as normal till wed, Thurs, fri and sat off ride argus sunday(I m gonna do 2 laps), normal training the next week sat, sun and mon cos its a long weekend(nothing that could result in an injury scary downhills etc) and then just gentle till the weekend, dunno if that'll work but its what I am doing

Well then you are taking a huge risk riding the Argus.Lots of crashes going to take place so please take it easy!!

No Heroics at this stage, training lost ,is training lost.Don't push to hard now,I would stick with my programme, you should be in your slow down phase very close to tapering.

Concentrate on your diet, equipment make sure everything is in tip top shape and just enjoy the run up to the event.

I Know, just planned the trip ages ago and well on track for sub 3 so hopefully I am in a bunch (Racing vets VB) that don't ride carelessly. Thanks for the thought!

Take it easy manne. You will ride yourself into form over the first 3 days anyway. You aren't going to "make up" time lost, rather focus on keeping (getting) healthy and maintain what you have built to date.

A bit off topic, but how long have you been cycling? Also how long have you been training for the epic?

I am considering doing this at some stage (after I have saved up the ransom money) and was wondering what how much of a commitment it is?

I am pretty busy with work so makes it difficult to get TITS during the week.
