I am about to fit bar ends to my mtb.

Now some advice from those who have tried out various ones. (I did search)

Firstly I notice you get "full size" one which will "fill" your hand. Nicely shaped. (1st pic)

Then mostly I see these smaller one which obviously work, but they are smaller than most hands. Why are they designed so small. (2nd pic)

Advice will be appreciated.

Personally, I prefer something which extends both in front of and behind the handlebar, like the Cane Creek. But from the two you have posted, I'd say the first looks more ergonomic.

NO BAR ENDS - the way to go.

They catch trees and look tacky. I ride without them and never has issues resting/relaxing my hands.

bar-ends unfashionable?! bl@@dy fashion victim!!!

I use Cane Creek bar ends, brilliant, since they extend a little way back from the h/bar as well as forward. Ergonomic.

To the poster who said he's never had a problem without them...

Try a few Epics back-to-back, and I think you will find that the additional hand placement option is a really relaxing option, gives great control when out of the seat on a tough climb, and yes, the Pro's use them too!

I could not get Cane Creeks but found BBB had some which were very similar to the CC one.

Prefer the CC / BBB (small but sweet) type as they have a small section extending behind the grip and just enough in front.

IMO you dont need such a long piece in front like the full size (looong ones in front only). Without a small part protuding rearwards you loose out on another hand position option.

As other posters have said very usefull on long rides to provide alternate hand positions for comfort reasons.
