I would like to find out from the riders in JHB what you can recommend to do a distance of 50-60km? I have ridden a lot at Van Gaalens which is fantastic but looking for something closer for Saturday morning. Also the Spruit many times in the week so not looking to ride there.

I have ridden Northern farms once only about 2 years back, but a search on these forums reveals there have been a number of hi-jackings and safety is a general concern? Is it safe to ride there on a Saturday morning and will I be able to loop 50km together?

Also heard of teak place but never ridden there, are the trails long enough?

thanks......

You can ride at Northern Farms - there are lots of riders there and there has not been an issue since they upgraded security. It about 40km to go around so you might have to repeat.

Teaks is also about 40km if you do both sides of the road. Teaks is an awesome trail so go try it out. Make sure you go around the right direction as they switch it often.

Another option is Breedts Nek - although its on public roads and more for 'hills training'.

northern farms and teak are good as is breedts - I am trying kingkloof this weekend.

As for Northern farms, you can go out the farm and do some of the roads around the back - make sure if you do that you go in a big group though and is less safe, within the farm, you can do a number of the loops that only repeat slighly and get in around 80km. They have quards within the farm so its very safe and there are plenty riders.

Cool I was a bit worried after a reading some of the negative posts about bike-jackings etc...

I'm not a fan of Teaks. Feels cramped. Like to feel I'm going somewhere not just aimlessly zig zagging. Van G is worth the extra 20min drive.

True but for pure convenience sake, you not gonna beat teak...VG is chalk and cheese though
