Wheel bearing

My wheelbearing/s on the rear hub of my american classis road wheel has started to grind. Are these sealed bearings or loose/individual ones and where and how do I get these replaced.

I stay in Norwood Gauteng

Thanks

Go the bearing shop route probably cost you a 1/3 of the price if not less! That's my experience with the bearings for the pivot of my horst link on my Specailized FSR XC I used to have as well as my sons American Classic MTB wheels.

If you are reasonable 'mechanically' inclined it's not that difficult to remove and refit them.

But it is important to get them out and either make sure you note the writing on the sides or at least take them with as a sample to ensure you get 100% the correct ones.

Anecdotal and in my personal experience of course!

Thats interesting because I also have AM CLASSIC wheels on my training bike and at a recent service I was told they needed replacement.

I was told by the shop the only bearings that will fit are the original part from the agents in CT, and that there are NO generic bearings (ie) from a bearing retailer, that will fit.

The original bearings for both wheels cost R560.00.

Now I dont know how true all this is, but I dont have time to go looking around bearing shops and I wouldnt know one bearing from the next or how to fit them (I am also not interested in doing it) so I said go ahead, BUT IN THE INTEREST OF HONESTY I would be very interested to know if this is in fact true and if they can be found as generics, so if anybody else has had this experience, I would be interested to hear about it and if it is not true I will put the shops name up here.

I wonder if Johan Bornman would know.?

Check in the phone book for a company called Bearing Man and see if they have a branch close to you.

My local shop wanted to charge like R80 PER BEARING to replace my AM Classic MTB wheels' bearings... and there are 6 in there. I went onto eBay, and ordered a STACK of generic bearings (over 20), @ R12 each. Saved a fortune, and they work great, super smooth. If you got time, order online, even local bearing shops are expensive.

I got the bearings replaced in my front Ksyrium SL wheel with generics for R100 for the pair at Illovo Cycles.
