wheelz Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 so guys. Please give me your opinion as to which you think is the better rear suspension and please say why. I have only ridden the spec with the brain and it felt really good but really interested in a giant bike with maestro suspension. Thanks guys. appreciate your feed back.
MoreTrails Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Neither - Santa Cruz VPP, works a dream, wish I owned a Nomad C
perp Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Neither - Santa Cruz VPP, works a dream, wish I owned a Nomad C lol
AndreZA Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Neither - Santa Cruz VPP, works a dream, wish I owned a Nomad C I think VPP is only available on Intense XC bikes. DW link is available on Pivot XC bikes. Otherwise just go for old fashion single pivot. One set of bearings and no linkages and that is it.
patham Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 The Giant Maestro suspension looks like a version of VPP technology, except they seem to call it something else. I love my Opus VPP, gives a plush ride, minimal pedal bob with even a crummy shock on the back, and no bob with a smart one. VPP wins on ability. However, when it comes to maintenance, after changing what seems to be a million bearings I did think about going over to a simpler single pivot....
nolipoli Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have been riding Giant Maestro for some years now. They really do perform well...but then pretty much any modern bike should. The brain seems to be a bit harsher on ride comfort (it is designed to feel like a hardtail until it hits a bump), and the Maestro feels very plush (too plush to some). What it really comes down to is which bike stirs your gravy more.
Tumbleweed Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I think VPP is only available on Intense XC bikes. I thought SC owned the patents on VPP
LazyTrailRider Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) I think VPP is only available on Intense XC bikes. DW link is available on Pivot XC bikes. Otherwise just go for old fashion single pivot. One set of bearings and no linkages and that is it. VPP is jointly licensed by Santa Cruz and Intense (technically it's owned by Santa Cruz, who bought it from Outland, and licensed to Intense), so you get it on Santa Cruz XC bikes as well - like the Blur XC and Blur LT, both brilliant machines. Yes, it's amazing, I've never experienced such a compliant ride before, but as has been mentioned it does require quite a bit of maintenance... so does a Formula 1 car though Edited March 29, 2011 by Martin Hattingh

This must say something about how good Spezes f/suspensions are with the brain. For x/c racing/riding I personally dont think there is a better set up. Trail riding though may be different. I've ridden the Giant and it is plush. Dont change if it aint broke.
AndreZA Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I thought SC owned the patents on VPP They do own it but Intense use it under license like Martin H says. I forgot about the SC Blurs.

Sawdust Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have ridden an Anthem for 4 years. Nothing wrong with the suspension. It is a pain to service and clean all those bearings once the bike gets older. Now on a Morewood with single pivot and I am convinced the ride is better. No bobbing at all but with the Anthem I always had some at high speed.
Slowbee Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 They do own it but Intense use it under license like Martin H says. I forgot about the SC Blurs.
EvilRabbit Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 SC VPP! Have owned a VP-Free and now a Nomad C and it just works, pretty stable on the ups and plush on the downs. Had an epic expert 2 years ago and loved the bike, but the spec proprietary rear shock was a lemon for 1-2 years when it came out. Have pedaled the maestro and seems to work pretty well too.
