Thanks for the help guys. And as usual, asking for advice has made things as clear as mud !

As SteveCT has said, if it gets cold and there is water inside the shifter and the water freeze's, then it aint going to matter if you have triggers or grips!

@Slowbee.

Gripshifts are often used on snow-bikes for two reasons - 1. They are easier to use if wearing thick gloves or mitts 2. They are not as prone to freezing up.

Might be a consideration if you are facing both prospects.

Attack GS and lever shifters are compatible with Shimano's 2:1 ratio and not Sram's 1:1 ratio.

@Mampara

I stand to be corrected here, but I am sure that SRAM ATTACK GS are compatible all round for F & R Shimano or SRAM.

SRAM Attack Triggers are Shimano rear only.

dude, I know you have a way with words - but man can you put that in eingleesh ?

I have a Sram 9 rear thingy, and I think i shimano on the front ?

The reason why Sram and Shimano REAR shifting systems are not compatible is because of the amount of cable the shifters pull. On Shimano the lever pulls 2mm of cable while the deraileur only uses 1mm to shift. On Sram the shifter moves 1mm of cable and the derailleur only uses 1mm to shift. Hence the 2:1 and 1:1 ratios. Please note it does not really only uses 1 or 2mm. this was only used to explain the ratios. So you can not use a 1:1 lever on a 2:1 derailleur or vise versa. But with the Sram Attack models they made it 2:1 to be compatible with Shimano and not 1:1 for their own stuff.

Front derailleurs does not matter. You can mix any lever with any front derailleur as long as the speeds are the same.

But am thinking that SRAM GS are compatible with Shimano and SRAM rear?!

Will try to 'goggle' it.
