just an update on the serfas...

Did some riding with it and I am very impressed.

It cost R400 and the difference on the ride was very impressive. Not the prettiest looking saddle but seriously comfortable

Get one that fits your ass.... seriously... or more accurately ass-bones (not a medical term)

I went through 2 Gobi's thinking that it was the best saddle, because it got so many rave reviews. It was way too narrow for me and the bloody thing murdered my bits for years and I just figured that's the way it was with saddles :stupid:

I think Specialized rep shops have that foam pad type thing that you sit on and they measure the dents your "ass bones" make and from there you know what saddle width you'll need. And it's got nothing to do with having a fat ass or not by the way.

I think Specialised BG also have a nice variety of widths, i.e. you can get the same saddle in various widths. I use a Ritchey Marathon WCS which is about 140mm wide and I'm pretty happy with it. So if you're in that range maybe consider it, they're well priced and if you can't find one call up Al at Bicicletta and he can advise you were to find one.

I have a few Selle Italia's you can try, I dont last long on them though, very hard but they are SLR, so all 3 are carbon. I may have a Specialized as well.

"Sped the cash and go for a specialized.

Their BG fitting works wonders for your rear"

+1 - they let you take a test saddle too so no more guess work.

+1 - We spent a fortune on different saddles until we did the fitting and got appropriate saddles + good quality pants.

my 2c

i tried quite a few saddles.gobi etcall of them were 143mm wide.until i tried a specialised avatar 155mm.it all depends on your sit bones.try a few before you buy and def see if you can get a test saddle.

I was very comfortable on the standard saddle the 2011 Silverback Spectra came with. The one on the 2011 Saturn looks a bit like a unisex saddle, probably a bit wide for a guy.

+1 for the specialized Saddles. I have the Indie 143mm, and I'm a big guy. Its even more comfortable than a previous 155mm that I had
