Howzit Guys,

Finally upgraded my wheelset to the new american classic set  Now that i have a proper ust set of rims i want to set new tyres and unsure of which to fit - conti race kings? Crossmark combo? Geax - which? Spec 2bliss - are these really tubeless and as good a UST tyre as the conti's or others? Cant handle punctures but want a reliable lightweight wheelset :D

oh and they 26inch tyres ;)

Have the same setup , was running racekings 2.2 ust's till they needed replacing . i have just fitted a pair of new raceking protection's running them tubeless and they rock ( these are not ust tires, but work fine )!!

old Ust's are 700grams each

and these are 450 or 500grams ( cant remember the weight ) each ( and i changed to 2.0 not 2.2 ) has made a big diff to my climbing , the bike feels alot more nimble.

What ever you can find!!

Crossmark - the last tyre you will buy for the next 2 years - very durable and good overall tyre

Geax - Suggaro - great front tyre - Barro Mountain - great rear tyre - I was a bit disappointed with the Mezcal - very washy on the loose

Conti Mountain & Race king - very happy with it - Race king does not like the mud - but is fast on the hardpack.

Schwalbe - always a good call.

Cant really go wroung with any of those.

Stop worring about what to ride and just ride - you`ll figure it out.

Enjoy.

howzit iron - do the race king protection have extra "protection" as such then a normal non ust tyre? Thats a big weight saving and worth thinking about for sure, shot

GEAX TNT tires are seriously nice! All depends on, where you riding, you're skill level, and your budget?

sorry prob should have mentioned - ride mostly out on jeep tracks and single track, skill level - average or above? not sure and budget not to concerned as spent the coin on the wheels and want best choice of tyre :D

I am running a geax suggaro on the front and race king 2.2 ust on the rear, and i am loving it. had kenda karma stick e's on front and rear previously and the new set up has made a huge difference to my riding confidence in corners and on the rougher stuff!

The Maxxis Monorail/Crossmark combo is the tried and trusted combo for many xc riders. Not the lightest, but certainly some of the toughest rubber out there. Went through a whole Epic without a single puncture running these tires.

What type of bike do you ride and the travel on the bike.

Are you a fair weather rider or will you ride in any conditions.

Name your preference

  • Speed, pure speed
  • Grips, pure grip
  • Good All Rounder

Go the Non-UST route for KZN riding.

I use Swalbe Nobby Nic 2.4 UST on the front for pure grip. The nobs are so soft you can squish them flat with your fingers. Good for trail riding - poor rolling resitance on Jeep track.

My friend uses Geax. He swears by them as the best tyres he has had. They seem to wear quickly though.

This is a great combo for most conditions - although not ideal in heavy mud
