Starts at the parking lot at the Market Theatre 18h45-19h00, group ride through town, relaxed pace, any bikes welcome, stop for refreshments at Arts on Main precinct halfway, we expect to be done riding by 21h30-22h00.

This ride is going to become a regular monthly event. The organisers are open to route suggestions or any other suggestions. What important is to get as many people as possible and this can be the start of something great in Joburg.

The facebook event page is http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=144798665591767

I have some very serious reservations about cycling in Joburg city centre on a friday night ! Is there gonna be some sort of police presence or escort ?

Best check to make sure your life and bicycle insurance premiums are up to date before undertaking this venture.

I think the weather may have the final say as to how many peeps come out tomrrow.

Possibly.

Lets hope the thought of doing something different - like riding through the CBD on an evening - attracts the numbers...

At least that's 20 people with a more positive attitude than 2 posts in this thread. At least it's 20 people who aren't avoiding life.

You can take your positive attitude comment and shove it where its dark and smelly!

1. Its FREEZING in Jhb with this cold front just arrived and staying the weekend.

2.Jhb taxidrivers are the arguably themost lethal in the country.

To go and try and compete for road space with them on their turf, on a friday night at the end of the month when 90% of them have been drinking since 18h30 is just plain idiotic.

3. As far as I am aware this is not a Jhb metro police sanctioned event, so that something else to think about it.

This isn't Cape Town, poephol!

You're welcome to it if you want it.

We're not avoiding life,we value it and are rather avoiding death.

Comment on the mountain, its what you know.

Calm down Francois - no need to get those panties all knotted up mate...

By the way - town is actually a lot quieter after 6pm...

Oh I knew we would get those comments. There's really no point in arguing with people who are ignorant of their own city. I have commuted through town and I ride through town in the daytime and at night. It's not safe, just like riding a bicycle on the road anywhere in SA isn't. But it is fun, especially in a group at night when the streets are quieter. A lot of fun. I won't lie though, it will be COLD tomorrow night

We did a early morning weekend sightseeing ride through JHB CBD a few months ago. One of our friends runs a bike touring company.

No problems.

Not sure who was more wide eyed with amazement - us or the residents
