Hi Mampara

Just checked it on a MSI netbook and an Android tablet and its perfectly visible.

Downloading other browsers now to see how it shows up on them.

What browser are you using?

Just downloaded Mozilla and Chrome and I can see the website fine. Will check with tech suppport to find out what might be happening. Will let you know what they say.

Thanks for letting us know of your issues.

Hi Mampara

Got a response back from the guys who host our store:

"Everything looks ok to me – checked it on IE8, Firefox and Chrome, and all looks well. I don’t run the same screen resolution as the person with the query, I run 1440x900, but I doubt that would make much difference. The page is quite wide – 1209px is a little larger than the standard.

The only time I’ve encountered this before was when someone was viewing a site from a 10” netbook on a low resolution, and it blocked out some of the data. Unless he is also running on a very small screen, it should be fine.

The only other thing I can think of is has he possibly accidentally increased the zoom in Windows or in Chrome. Even then, he should see scroll bars which would allow him to scroll across the page. I don’t think this is a problem with the site, I think this is something specific to his browsing."

I've tried now on FF. The problem is if the list of items is not very long and you don't get a scroll bar or get a very short scroll bar.

had the same issue Mampara (running 1920x1080 on a 24")...

easy to go around by scrolling down before expanding the lists, but not ideal.

anyway... my biggest concern is that most of the stuff I want is out of stock  (probably a good thing though)

aah! gotcha!

I just tried it out on a page that doesn't scroll and as soon as I hover over and expand the list so that it drops off the bottom of the page, a scroll-bar activates and I can wheel-scroll whilst the list is active. Well that's with IE 8 anyway(all I have installed on my desktop). Would try it on Safari, but left laptop at home today

Hey, good luck with your site!

Some issues from my side:

  • Your header is WAY too big. Considering the actual information displayed in it (logo and name) there is no need for it to be that big. I generally stick to strict 100 - 150 pixel hight. Keep in mind that you are sacrificing a lot of screen real estate to show your logo, where you could be using that space to show and promote the content you want people to buy
  • Try to up the quality of the logo and name imagery. It's pixelated and looks a bit low budget. This makes a huge impact on how your site is perceived.
  • If you can get your main navigation and search bar into the same line (float the search bar to the right) then you will save some space too, and use the space you have a bit more efficiently.
  • When I go look at the Ellsworth bike, there is no price displayed, and I have to click on the pricing chart. When that opens all I see is the sizes. Only later did i realise i have to scroll horizontally to see the price. Remember, always consider your site users to be stupid (it's the foundation of usability)
  • Lastly, insert a link back to the homepage (or alternatively make your header link back) Really frustrating not being able to go back to where I was, and the browser's back button is not a good way to have to do it.

Again, good luck with your site mate! Man I really want that Ellsworth, but no budget!!! :)

+1

Personally I try to limit banners etc to 80px or restrict them to either the left or right corner. A breadcrumb is always a good idea especially when doing on-line shopping. This together with a recently viewed section or wishlist

Thanks for the positive crit - really appreciate it! Have halved the size of the header, sorted out the Ellsworth Glimpse pricing and will see if I can make a plan to make the header a link back to home (and good idea about the search bar, will see if it can be done.)

Hi Seeker911

The store is setup to show a "last 5 products sold" and a "top selling products" box on the right hand side of the screen - will kick in as soon as more than 5 products have been sold.

Cheers
