  1. 1. Hypothetically speaking, you are about to pull the trigger and need to decided between the following uber bikes

    • Keep your Ibis Mojo HD
      6
    • Try a Turner 5-Spot
      3
    • Wait a month for a Morewood Sukuma
      16
    • Play it safe and risk going with an Ibis Mojo SL-R
      12
    • Go completely new and order an Intense Tracer 2
      6
    • Pray that Morewood's Mbuzi replacement is imminent
      5
    • Give the Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon a go
      27
    • Please the_wes and add the Commencal AM to the list
      9
    • Or go for the killer looking Yeti SB-66
      18

It is a sad sad day! I fell in love with another... oh wait, I said another, I have two! Is bigamy condoned in this thread?

It ticks all the blocks, now I just need to ride one..

The SB66 runs Yeti's new Frame design technology. Switch Technology Is an optimized dual-link design that utilizes an eccentric mechanism (that the lower rear triangle pivot is attached) that switches direction as the bike moves through its travel. Built into a compact assembly, the eccentric link creates a microlink that continuosly repositions the lower pivot of the swing arm, allowing us to create a suspension system with no compromises.

Efficient pedaling

at the beginning of the travel the eccentric link is rotated in a rearward direction, guiding the lower pivot of the swingarm rearward. This counter clockwise motion coupled with the initial rearward wheel path creates an excellant pedal platform, making the SB-66 pedal and climb without sacrificing small bump sensitivity.

Responsive mid stroke.

The flat Linear shape of the leverage ratio coupled with Switch Technology allows the bike suspension to be more responsive, especially in the mid stroke of the travel. This esssitially creates a larger "sweet spot", keeping the rider higher in the travel throughoutthat portion and allowing the suspension to react better to bigger hits. There are no unexpected spikes or wallows so cornering and jumping feel comfortable and consistent throughout the travel.

Continuous Travel

Once the SB66 reaches the inflection point (rotating backwards to forwards about 100mm into the travel), the eccentric link starts to rotate in a forward (clockwise) direction. This means the rate at which the chain stay grows (DCSL) drops of quickly, allowing the suspension to work independantly of chain forces and pedal feedback. Because the suspension isn't being impeded by chain growth in the last third of the travel, the smooth feel in the mid stroke is continued all the way to full compression without the harsh bottom out feeling.

Has anyone even ridden a Sukuma yet ? Was the prototype tested, or just for show.

Ya i have ridden the Sukuma Prototype when Pat had it at Giba and then again at one of our provincial DH races.

Its flipping amazing!

BUT - dont know how long its gonna take to come out into the market. I still love that LaPierre Spicy though. Man thats a hot bike

Sorry to hijack your thread Crow, but what are the opinions on a Yeti 575, looking at a 2009 with a Fox DHX shock.

09 Was the beginning of good things for the 575. Drop in bb height and a not so up right stance gave it much better handling. Not so much a fan of the DHX

Difficult one. Not an easy list to pick ONE from. Not on the list, but I'd say go with a Santa Cruz Blur LTC. Light, tight, strong and great all day all mountain bike. What do you think?

Food for thought.

Hmmm... I've met Crow and he seems like a DH'r at heart. ;) Me thinks the LTC (although a super trail bike) will be slightly too "flimsy" for his AM needs. Not putting the LTC down, just saying the Nomad is probably better suited.
