England bowlers not doing much better - 500 odd runs scored today, only 1 bowler got a wicket & 2 run-outs. Pitch looks good for batting.

The difference so far has been much tighter bowling from England. Our attack got rattled by the onslaught with the new ball. Lets hope we can find another combination for the Wanderers test that can take 20 wickets in the match. At the end of day 2 only 2 results seem likely, i.e a win for England or a draw. It puts into context how England has dominated this game.

Agreed, but it looks as if the pitch is still full of runs - lets see how they do after lunch tomorrow.

Agree with you guys. If Hash and AB can keep going until tea tomorrow then we should be in with a shout to get a draw. Best result we can wish for. The English have been disciplined in their bowling and fielding and have their best unit available. They know they can do the job and they know Hash and AB's wickets are key. Tomorrow is going to be very intriguing day's play.

Correction - I see Englamd scored at more than 8 rpo today. Cant blame only the pitch - bowlimg must have been wayward as well.

It was lambs to the slaughter with no opportunity to rotate experience with inexperience. Felt sorry for Piedt, Morris and Rabada in particular.

I actually feel for the selectors as well. They followed a process with the likes of Parnell and McLaren, which did not work out, Duminy used all his chances and both Dale and Vern are injured. I think we need to re-look our domestic structure as the gap is simply too big between test and Sunfoil cricket. Perhaps instead of giving visitors a SA A game why not give our boys at least 2 Sunfoil games to try and get sone form back and give young and upcoming talent the opportunity to play against senior players in the national side.

Been saying that for years... No proteas really play domestic anymore.. But rugby has super rugby.. Makes a huge difference. All this bloody Ipl and big bash crap is ruining test cricket which Imo is the most important discipline

Yip and more. Batting is weak currently because multiple top players are short of runs. Which meant we needed to go with four bowlers only.

Inexperienced Bowling team got slaughtered today, not only because they bowled too short. no backup on this pitch for part timers, Elgar (and duminy if he was there ) would have been klapped, so it was down to just rotating the four specialists. With them at 230/5 we just couldn't drive the nail in as we needed to rest for the new ball.

We've obviously been batted out of this game quickly, but a draw would require the sort of batting we're capable of. It would feel like a win from here.

But all credit to stokes, that was an iconic innings.

also meant to say that we've probably become a bit complacent with our bowling stocks. Steyn has been #1 for six year ends now, and vern and morne also in the top 10. Abbot and de lange both had amazing debuts when given the chance due to injury.

Things not looking so rosy currently!

All seems quiet on the Western front this morning. SA does not seem in any rush to chase down England's total and with the pitch still playing like it did on day 1, it seems like there is little danger at present. A wicket-less session is what was called for, regardless of how many runs were scored. With this box ticked we will probably digest our lunch a bit better than yesterday. With England doing an excellent job in progressing the test match, we have no option but to slow things down without getting bogged down. Spin is not yet a factor, and even with a ball change has not induced any swing for the fast bowlers with little or no reverse swing on offer. One gets the impression that England is buying time until the second new ball, and SA is not giving anything away until then. AB De Villiers reached 8000 runs, and Amla is a few short of 7000, and n/o on 91, so this partnership remains the key to SA playing out a draw / England pushing for a win.
