Yes Shimano is better, ask Andy Schleck, Sram cost him the Tour de France last year!

Are we talking Road or MTB?

Road - Shimano

Mtb - possibly Sram but not convinced yet.

I forget where exactly I read it, but in 2010 more professional riders complained of displaced chains and rear derailleur issues on SRAM Red than any other groupset. Look at Schleck's now infamous moment with Contador.

Personally I think it is personal choice. I've always enjoyed Campagnolo, but I have also loved any bike I have had with Shimano.

Sparty also had a few DNF's thanks to SRAM and ended up riding Shimano chains and cassettes.

I really like SRAM mtb parts but the road stuff strikes me more as a collection of rebranded parts rather than a bottom up designed group set...

50/50 Shimano Campy for road.

50/50 SRAM Shimano for mtb stuff

Quite a big % of the pro peleton will be on electronic shifting next year, with Campy also a player in that game now. with the 6.8kg limit, the extra 150g weight penalty is probably helpful to the mechanics.

I wonder what gruppo selection would look like if the UCI dropped the bike limit to 5.8kgs?

It would be a single speed without breaks.
