I'm not gonna ride your bike again cos then I'll be adding a lefty to my Niner and the bank account would not like that! Plus I'd have to renege on my "no carbon on mtb" statement and thehub wolves would have me for breakfast!!!

 

Ps: ride your SS at Modders - its awesome! Nearly blew a poep string getting over "the rock" and used 2nd gear a lot (no 3rd gear though!!) but well worth it!

interesting topic. I have just inherited a 2x10 setup and was quite concerned about it as I sometimes need my granny,

 

Going from a 22-32-44, 11-32 to a 28-42, 11-36

 

Plugging those into the calculator i see I am losing my 22-32 granny and one gear on the other end which i am less worried about. The net result is riding the new 42 and 26 combo is the same as riding my old middle 32 and 28 (8th gear) same goes for the granny gear. Considering I did the whole of Sani like this (couldn't shift into my 32 at the back) i see absolutely no problem, and the rides i have done since have been fine...i have not needed to use the smaller 28 yet. Would i buy 2x10 by choice - probably not - but i am certainly content with it....and hopefully less to go wrong
