On my way to gym/work in the mornings I see many roadies riding from the Groenkloof area past fountains circle and then either on to Eeufees road or Botha aveneu. I would love to squeeze in a pre work ride once or twice a week - so would you mind sharing youre route? How far? Is it safe to do alone? etc etc.

Nvermind the route. Where the f*&k in broolyn do I get a regular road bike tube?

When you say broolyn I assume Brooklyn. The closest would be Hatfield Cycles which is at the corner of Lynnwood and Duncan. Bruce Reyneke is also not that far from there. Within 1.5 km radius from Brooklyn Circle.

Gunston

A main and fairly safe

A) past fountains along Botha ave, carry on Botha, pass under N1, turn right into Irene, follow road straight up to John Vorster, left at John Vorster, straight up Nellmapius, up Cornwall Hill, left into van Reyneveld road, straight along till Hans Strydom, then you can carry on straight into Waterkloof, turn left into Ridgeview, right into Muskejaat, straight up to Orion, keep on road curving to left, carry on straight and turn right into Eridanus, left into Rigel. Down Rigel/Queen Wilhelmina till George Storrar/middle street.

Hairy bit will be going down Rigel in traffic, rest is fine. Cornawall hill can also be a tester but is a favourite with cyclists and motorists are fairly used to cyclists there

So back to topic..... what route do you guys ride from groenkloof?

Depends on what distance you are looking at. Being a built up area there are many roads to choose from. Typically you could do a few laps over Klapperkop. Or you could go out on Botha and then around Air Force Base Waterkloof then back on the R21 or take a route through Waterkloof. You could go up Eeufees and then throught the Voortrekkerhoogte area take a few backroads to Valhalla area and come back to the R21 via Snakevalley. A longer route might be out on Lynnwoodroad and then take Hans Strydom back to the R21 and finish off via Klapperkop

I myself stay north of the CBD so take a route through Waverly and then through to Brooklyn and then over Eeufees into the CBD where I work.
