What Would be worthwhile???

lets put a different spin on it - you need the "official" or "marshall" gear as people need to spot you easily, but as an added incentive a pre or post meet and greet with some of the riders would be very cool. I'm in Pmb - so put me down!

Dude,

You need to understand the Psych make-up of a Marshall...

I've been in various Marshalling capacities over the years. Most of us would do it for zip/zero/free... Just to be close to the action and a part of the event...

Having a goodie bag is nice and a T-shirt is cool... but it's not gonna be bait to entice a good volunteer(and for a World class event, you need great Marshall). The best bait is to gain the opportunity to give back to the sport you love and to get closer to the action.

I think you are pretty bang on the money, on this one:

The best Marshall is an "Enthusiast"

Excellent post!

I would like to be a marshall, any free **** is alway cool, free beer after the event would be a welcome addition.

I don't think money is an essential, some cool uniforms and bike goodies and lunch would be good for me.

I would do it for free as I am going to be there every day anyway. A meet and greet as Stretch says would be great. Access to accommodation and then obviously proper training. Like most cyclist I understand what effort the pro's put in, so I don’t want to stuff something up on D day.

Then maybe you can organise and annual membership to Cycling SA or a cycling park like Karkloof, Holla or Groenies for us here in GP? That would be cool.

Please dont let this just fade away. Keep us updated as to where we can apply.
