Sequoia Posted December 17, 2007 Share I don't think your bar and stem will make a huge difference. Do yourself a favour and go to a LBS. Compare the feel of two different handlebars - cheap and expensive. The same with stems. We are talking about saving tens of grams here. Of course, looking good is a completely different ball game. What brifters do you have? They are heavier than most people think. I will put money on the table that most of what you feel, is in fact the weight of your brifters. gummibear Posted December 17, 2007 Share what is a "brifter".if you mean shifter, its 10speed Dura ace
javadude Posted December 17, 2007 Share You can also save a couple of hundred grams upgrading your fork to a full carbon Easton SL. Carbon bars and Stem are not actually lighter than alu. My ritchey wcs alu setup is in fact lighter than the equivalent carbon parts. Where you score on carbon is looks and comfort, but you pay for it when you take a tumble. gummibear Posted December 17, 2007 Share the fork is full carbon and never felt heavy when the bike was built but the bar and stem did. i really like the look of the carbon bar and stem. windblown2007-12-17 04:08:

racman Posted December 17, 2007 Share Sounds like it's just "upgrade fever" that's altering your perception. Come on - give in to it, you know you want to !!!!
Zaskar Posted December 17, 2007 Share Like Velo said, the Alu stuff is usually lighter than the Carbon. The FSA OS-115 and OS-99 stems are really light, as is the Ritchey WCS stem, all around 100g, and they are very stiff. As far as bars go, the Easton SLX and Equipe (both Carbon) are very good, and around 200g each. Slightly heavier is the Ritchey WCS and FSA carbon stuff at around 230-240g. But again for look at the Alu bars, like the Deda Newton bar (around 190g) and the Easton EA70 (200g odd), both just as stiff and strong as the carbon, at less than half the price! Just my 2 cents worth, as im also looking at gettng new bars this week!
gummibear Posted December 18, 2007 Share Zaskar thanks.only thing is i liked the Newton bars and on there site it says 205gr but when weighed they are 260.i liked the Ritchey goodies.

Mudsimus Posted December 18, 2007 Share I weighed the bar and stem from my felt, they are within a few grams of Ritchey WCS Alu.
