philip.maree Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) I am currently running Shimano XT MT75 29er Wheelset but I want to replace it with something lighter/better. I am leaning towards the Eastons but would appreciate some input. Edited December 22, 2011 by philip.maree
rouxtjie Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 4.5 stars from Bikeradar is a very good rating http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/wheel-sets/product/review-hope-pro-2-hubs-stans-ztr-crest-rims-29er-wheelset-11-45154/

I am leaning towards the Eastons but would appreciate some input. the eastons are quite pricey and as somebody said to me when I was looking if you break a spoke they can be pricey and stock shortages as I suppose with the XT wheels As opposed to getting some Stans ZTR whatevers but the the spokes DT swiss are readily available eg if You are at a stage race and need a repair in the evening when you put all the pro's and cons lighter doesnt always rate that high thats why the Stans are a good buy I think easton are around 7-8 grand Stans with ZTR hubs light and around 4.5-5 grand easily by the way what do those XT wheels weigh
Weight Weenie Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 My choice would also look at if you want to use UST or foldable tyres, as Stan's are made for the latter. While some of the other wheels are UST wheels (rims) so fitting should be less of a hassle
Spiff Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Heard the 29er wheels from Nine Industries are really good, have a look http://www.industrynine.net/Ultralite_29

Weight Weenie Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ZTR 29er Race Gold - great wheels if you are under 77kg. Agreed if it's anything like the 26" version. However they are a pure race wheel so you would need something cheap to train on
splat Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Stan's rims on Hope hubs with brass nipples & DT Swiss Comp spokes. Get a few spare spokes from the wheel builder.
