Guys.....tell me.....the support driver that registers......if he doesn't pitch at checkpoint 5...... (is it compulsory)..... for example, if I would rather have him checking in at checkpoint 6 and not worry about checkpoint 5......would that be a problem??? Just asking

Dear All

One week before the 2012 ASG Trans Baviaans and we’re experiencing exciting times!! At the moment we are monitoring the situation in Baviaanskloof closely and, despite high water levels, went through the Baviaanskloof this past weekend. The decision everybody is waiting for have to be made, and looking at the weather forecast for the rest of the week and the weekend, it has been decided that we will stay on the original Baviaanskloof route. Here is some information that will be helpful to assist in your planning.

NO ROUTE CHANGE FOR 2012 ASG TRANS BAVIAANS

The decision everybody is waiting for have to be made, and looking at the weather forecast for the rest of the week and the weekend, it has been decided that we will stay on the original Baviaanskloof route. The rivers are flowing and levels are fairly high, but it is dropping rapidly and with no major rainfalls predicted for that area, is it expected to continue dropping. Riders can therefore expect to get their feet wet (more than a couple of times) but the road conditions are good and surfaces are dry. The finish venue in Jeffreys Bay has also changed to the Jeffreys Bay primary school sports grounds.

WHAT TO EXPEXT WHERE:

To help you plan your race you can expect the following (for free) at the various checkpoints:

·
Hammer Refreshment Point #1 – 52.6km:
Rooster Brood, Hammer Energy bars, Hammer Heed Energy Drinks, Hammer Gel, Coffee, Tea, Coke.

·
Checkpoint #2 –
104.8km:
Banana, Marshmallows, Powerade, Coffee, Tea.

·
Checkpoint #3 – 122.9km:
Sosatie, Sausage, Potato dish, Coke, coffee, tea.

·
Checkpoint #4 – 142.2km:
Soup, bread, Coffee, Tea, Coke.

·
Checkpoint #5 – 176.2km:
Potato chips (chip roll), Powerade Energy drink, Coffee, Tea.

MagicLight recharge station
– arrangements for battery swops must be made at registration.

·
Checkpoint # 6: (Unmanned):
Nothing.

·
Checkpoint #7 - 203km:
Jaffels, Coke, Coffee, Tea.

·
FINISH – 229.5km:

ORANGE & BLACK CONTAINERS: Each team will receive 3 x Plastic Containers (26 l) in which you can send own racing goodies (clothes, supplements, lights, etc.) to Checkpoints #2, #3 and #4. From Checkpoint #5 onwards can own support vehicle provide assistance and no containers are provided for these. Contents of the Containers must be collected at the finish and the containers must be returned. Please note that this will be controlled to prevent wrong containers being taken or theft.

REGISTRATION: Registration will take place at the Town Hall in Knysna Road (Main) in Willowmore from Friday (17 August) 14:00 till 21:00 and on Saturday morning from 7:00 till 8:30. About Neverender being wet --yes water is flowing over bridge so straight after Kondoma stop-- you will cross the water--- maybe carry your dry socks with you and put them on once you have crossed the bridge, that will be the last water crossing on the route. It is quite a long crossing.

It's super easy for family and friends to track you on our website, (we're in the process of creating a one page image with instructions on what to do) but if you want to check it out in the meantime...

Go to www.asgevents.co.za

Click on 'ASG Live' tab

Click on 'To access live tracking click here: ASG live'

Close the 'welcome to ASG live' pop-up after reading instructions

Click on the little tracker icon at the top right hand corner of the page

Choose your event: Trans Baviaans

Choose your route: Trans Baviaans

Names of riders with these trackers will show at the bottom of the screen

Cost to rent per day: R40 so for Trans Baviaans it will be R80 for the 2 days

To purchase: R1 550 VAT incl

Thanks, remember last year riding on the slopes of Neverender the temperatures where about an average of two degrees the whole climb. But with wind chill etc. it was about 0 degrees, so I definitely don't want to have wet feet starting that climb

We'll walk through and just do the climb. If you really HAVE to, you can change socks at the checkpoint at the top of never ender. I rather want to finish faster than have dry feet. I won't be bombing through water crossings though, that's stupid. Screws up your bike. Rather coast through and close the 5 seconds you lost back up to the group you were with. I won't have a change of socks every time my footsies get wet.

Or R40, if you are one of the faster teams and finish before midnight.
