I can get a new FSA DH/SS MTB 34t 104mm Chainring 3mm Thick Black for a decent price.

Was wondering if that'll work in conjunction with my 2x9 Sram system on a Race Face XC Evolove crank.

The PCD and bolt holes are correct , but becuase its a SS ring it has no chain pull up thingmajigs to pick up the chain as you move from small ring to big ring?

This is the specs :

I've used a singlespeed chainring like that with no problems.

Awesome!

Did you notice a difference when shifting up to that ring compared to a normal chainring with the pickup thingmajigs on the sides ?

I'm assuming it may also be more durable becuase its such a chunky chainring at 3mm thick?

Sick!!

A mate of mine bought and Middelburn outer ring from CRC only to find out that it does not have those pickup the chain thingmajigs. It does however have two of the teeth flattened off. He is not too happy with it as it means the chain only gets picked where the teeth have been flattened off. But its still works, just not as well.

Mmm so it would seem if you looking for seamless & speedy upshifting then SS chainrings are not gona be able to perform that well .

I suspected as much

note to self , stop being so damn cheap!!!!

Shifting will be like those old 10 speed racers that transported loads of boys to school back in the day. Grind, grind, catch. Just keep the shift button pushed and keep pedalling. It shifts up eventually.

Talking of cheap, how cheap did you get it? We're talking Durban cheap not Joburg chear right? Might be willing to take it off your hands for my ss if you want something more suited to 2x9.
