Hey, I fell off my IDT once!!! Was well into my FTP test (basically very pap) and never noticed that the IDT wasn't on level ground. It slowly but surely vibrated the wheel clamps loose and just as I went for the last 60s wind up to finish, the wheel came out and I hit the deck - hard! I wear elbow and shin pads on the IDT now Embarrassed

Hi Linnega
I see you often on our club ride on weekends (coming back from Inchanga when we go out).If you were so against it' date='why are? you always wearing a helmet when I see you ?
As a matter of fact I have never seen you without one.
Just wondering

I usually wear a helmet on longer rides (probably last time I didn't on the Inchanga ride was over a year ago) for the same reason I usually wear the bibs I race in. Helmets are compulsory for races which would be very uncomfortable if I never trained with a helmet. Second reason is I find not wearing a helmet regularly makes me feel uncomfortable in traffic when I do wear one. The is a signficant impact on awareness with a helmet on and this takes acclimatisation. Finally, I don't enjoy having this argument on the road when all I want to do is ride.

As a last note, I am not actually anti-helmet. I am strongly against the amount of cycle safety energy wasted on helmet when other issues are far more important. I also feel strongly that the whole helmet thing give the false impression that cycling is dangerous. And the reliance given to helmets means some cyclists over-estimate the protection given by helmets and are reckless as a result. Helmets these days are okay as they are light enough and decently vented.
