Press fit BB

Any comments/advice on the new generation press fit BB's

 

Like working on my own bike/s. Had to replace frame but new standard seems to be press fit bb. That means new tools !!!. or does it ?? Do you just tap them out or what ??

Just got very comfortable with externa bb's en cheap rebuild (thread on this site) etc...

There is a tool for the job......

 

...but my observation leads me to believe that very few LBS's have more than a hammer !

 

If you are a J Clarkson personality, a hammer will do.

 

If you are a Richard Hammond personality, you will allow Clarkson to fit it.

 

If you are James May personality, you will get someone to do it for you properly, whilst wearing a pink paisley shirt.

if you have access to a headset press, it should work for a BB as well. I'm pretty sure it will work for a BB. but in a pinch, wood blocks will work.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages of using the external(hollow-tech) vs a press fit BB, I've just got a new frame and the new BB is press-fit, so just trying to get my head around it all.

 

Are the Press-fit easier to service, I realise their is the weight saving that I'm making, but are the press-fit more susceptible to dirt getting into the bearings.

 

I've done some reading up, but wanted to hear what some hubbers opinions are
