Josh...

For a start...

- make sure your knees do not fall inwards on the power stroke. The general approach is that it make you more aerodynamic if you have your knees close to the frame, but it will place huge loads on your knee. Make sure your knee "follows" the foot - i.e. you should be able to "see" the space between the 2nd and middle toe on the inside of your knee as you cycle. This will sort out the load at the knees.

- spin slow

- stretch your ITBs. This may sound strange, but the ITB has attachments to the knee cap that pulls it out of alignment which aggrevates the runner's knees.

- strengthen you bum

Try these, it should help. Let me know if you want more specifics

For the collapsed arch, it could have many causes, so not so easy to give advise

Good luck

Thanks!, i will defiantly do this. :)

Simplistically, does the ITB pull on the outside of knee cap, working against/with the VMOs, pulling on the inside, to track knee cap properly ?

Yes. There is an extension running from the ITB attaching onto the knee cap on the outside, it then works against the VMO and with Vastus Lateralis (the outside thigh muscle) pulling the knee cap outwards.

A bit off topic but fits in with "spinning".

I do a few spinning classes a week and this one lady (monday was the second time joining her class) always mentions "level 5 and push at 7 o'clock". I have no idea what she meant by "push at 7 o'clock". I just ignored that part, but then this one guy (decked out in a full cycling kit with polar watch and all) asked me "what does she mean "push at 7 o'clock?"

Seems like I'm not the only one...does anyone on here know?

Will ask her. It's bugging me. I thought it was just me who didn't know but when they chap asked me and then the other guy next to me also said "no idea" and they were both wearing cycling kit, so I assume they are cyclist...unless they just like to dress the part. ;P

Will let you know what she says...

@ 7: pull backwards & @ 1: push forward

This is just another way to get you to spin your feet around, and not to pedal squares or just stomp up and down. Although, to me, it sounds easier to pedal squares by thinking up and down and forward/back instead of round and round.

Rather try and scrape mud of your feet at the bottom of the pedal stroke?

For the "anal people" just read between the mistakes. ;P

So I did a strength spin class with that lady last night and you guys were correct with the push and pull.

Now next week I’m going to ask her why she wears a cap during spin.

This morning I planned on doing my own spin session, I had my music and lil routine set out and before I even placed my bum on the saddle, the dude next to me all, ‘’hey, you must be new here, I haven’t seen your face here before…’’ (I’m fairly new to the Westville gym…I’ve been going there since Feb but mostly swimming pool or spin class…haven’t modelled around the gym just yet…)

So I didn’t get a chance to listen to my music and do my spin session in peace. I didn’t mind too much but I can’t have talkie talk every morning.I did try to drop a few hints by placing music back in my ears, but then he would still try get my attention by turning and looking at me and I mentioned ‘’busy training for a cycling event’’ him, ‘’ya, your legs look strong looking.’’

Will need to be more direct and firm next time. I didn’t wake up this morning at 4:45am to chit chat. I want to get my groove on.
