Throwing open a stage of the Cape Epic route for a causal ride....

What is the possibility of opening a day stage of the Cape Epic to a bunch of amateur riders?

All the leg work has been done, there is a route and all the approvals are in place.

 

Possibly the week end after the CE.

 

Could we possibly get at least 2000 riders that would be interested.

 

Would people be willing to pay R300.00 to a charity. (Its not a lot when you look at the bicycles some of us are riding).

 

So we could raise R600, 000.00 + so clever locals can sell us food along the road and raise funds + we can sell some t-shirts / stickers etc.

 

So there is approximately R700, 000.00 to a charity that has the clout to influence the Cape Epic organisers, the main sponsor ABSA, and Cape nature.

 

It’s a long distance so we could break it up into a ‘half marathon’ event for the 5okm cyclists.

 

Where do we start?????

That would be a nice event, like an MTB Etape for the Epic. I'm sure people would love to see how they go on an Epic stage, esp if it's one of the big climbing ones.

 

The charity and sustainable angle of the stage would also be a great pull. Maybe you should suggest it to who ever is doing the Epic marketing as something they should think about next year.

issue might be setting up the logistical support along the way.

 

medical support, water points, organisers for numbers (ie salaries), starting location support, end location support etc. these I think maybe more of a hinderance than anything else.

If you go and ride at Ongegund or Oak Valley today, tomorrow or Wednesday you can right a whole lot of the Epic route all nicely marked out for a mere R30!
