mataz Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I am looking at a new bike that is specced with Formula RX Brakes but I know nothing about them and currently ride with Avid Elixir CR's, which I am very happy with. Are the Formula RX brakes as good as Avid Elixir's or would it be worth transferring the Avid's to the new bike to maintain performance? Thanks

amasendeinja Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 There are very few brakes that require more maintenance, and infinite patience when bleeding, to keep them running sweet, than Elixir CRs. I heard good things about Formula brakes in general so doubt you could go wrong with the RX's - wouldn't hesitate if I were you.

Bike Mob Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The RX brake is flippen amazing...So much of power. Easy to set and bleed too. I have rx's and R1's and I cant see myself ever changing brands to anything from Formula.
Stig Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Formula brakes are unbelievebly powerful and require very little tinkering and easy to change pads (also no squeeling brakes).I had Formula R1 brakes on my Tallboy for 2 years, I have built a new Tallboy with the 2012 XTR brakes, they dont come close to the R1's.

You will not fine lower maintenance, well powered brakes anywhere else. The price as well is a KILLER deal for what you get!!!

I am riding my dual more these days and am about to switch the brakes so I ride with the Formulas more. I just prefer them. The Avids are good but the Formulas are better. More powerful and less fiddling/ tinkering required. Just bolt them on and ride (and STOP ). So I would give the Formulas a go if I was you.
Weight Weenie Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Love my Formula R1's, RX are great value ! I would venture to say that unless you are a gram counter the RX will perform just as well for allot less $
