Sealant clogged tubeless valves

Hi guys

Im probably a dummy by asking this. I use a Joe's No-flats tubeless rim tape and valve system on DT Swiss X455 wheels. The removable part of the valve keeps clogging because of the sealant and for that reason I need about 5 Bar of pressure to inflate my wheels at glacier pace. Any tips on fixing this? At the moment I remove the valve insert, inflate and then put the insert back while blocking the valve with my finger... Very frustrating.

The only thing I've found that helps is greasing the valve insert before inserting - even then it only slows the process not stop it completely. Inserts needs to be removed and cleaned occassionally.

Same with floor pumps - I need to disassemble mine and get the goo out from time to time.

The downside of sealant!

When you install the valve put a bit a grease.

When you inflate the tyre, make sure the valve is pointing down, loosen it, let some air out first with your finger (this clears any slime in the valve) - inflate.

Seriously reduces that issue.

Always inflate the tyre with the valve at the top, and do not put the sealant in through the valve - open the casing at the rim to put in sealant.

Do thoose two small things and it will not clog at all.

all these replies are about what you should have done ...

Now, what you should do;-

+ Remove the 'removable valve core' from the valve stem

+ The valve pin has a little round-nut used to close the valve - Hold the valve core with a 'valve core removal tool' (or pliers) unscrew this ball and remove it (wil take a little effort - it is made not to come off)

+ now remove the valve pin from the core and clean it - and the inside of the core

+ place valve pin back into the core - and add the round-nut that keeps it from falling out

+turn the round-nut in so that the valve pin just just shows as it comes through

+ hold the round-nut with pliers / or vice and use a hammer to knock the top of the pin - just a few knocks to create an edge - (like a rivet would do) - to prevent the round-nut from accidentally coming off next time you loosen it to inflate the tyre.

Done ... I do it all the time ... piece of cake
