badiejb Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I hear what you are saying JB, but the way the specialized videos are made and uploaded live even before the TV production is up is quite cool. (I suspect that you may have a hand in this. If so, thumbs up). We all sit at our desks watching the live streaming of the finish line cam every day and wonder why they don't simply put 3 or 4 cameras on the route and use the other cameras to cover the last 15 minutes and broadcast that live. They could also simply use most of that footage for the evening show later on and cut down on editing time that way.You're the authority here and I know that it may not be that simple, but surely there must be a better and quicker way to at least let us see the last bit of racing either live or via the Epic website say 1 or 2 hours afterwards. I am currently working on some video at the Epic.... Wont mention companies. I hear the comments from the guys, but its a little bit more in depth than it sounds. Your idea sounds great and I think its something that they could and should do in future. If they can have one streaming camera, why not more. I wanted to point out that putting the highlights of 26min on tv the same day is a time consuming process and its really hard to do. The only way that rugby and cricket highlights are made in a 30min highlight show is because its just cut straight from live tv. All points taken and considered. I hope you guys are enjoying some of the videos on Youtube....

Doesnt really matter, just wanted to give some insight as to what happens to make the show possible. Lets hope the live broadcast on the last day is better than last year

Do you even know how hard it is to film with 7 cameras, download all the footage of more than 20 hours a day, sort it all out, edit it. sound mix and do a voice over and then still prep it to be sent to germany, only then to be sent back to SA for broadcast? I dont think you do so keep your PISS POOR comments for something you have an idea about, Even if you worked in tv which clearly you dont, there is no one in the county who do daily highlights of any sporting event. And no i dont work for the company that does the show but i did for 3 years and i have filmed the epic for the last 4 years. Frankly I actually don't care how difficult it is to make a 26 minute package or to film with 7 cameras. What I do care about about is the premium cash which I hand over each month and in return I expect a premium service. Not excuses as to why this service cannot be delivered or how difficult it is to deliver such service. This certainly has nothing to do with about how difficult you perceive your job to be but rather about consumer expectation versus service delivery. The highlites package in question also consisted of 15 minutes of content from the previous day and only 11 minutes of the actual day but I am not going to delve into how I believe that with todays technology you have ample time to put it all together. Afterall I am not in the broadcast industry or so you believe. What I am going to harp on is that whilst you were seeing red you missed the point of my comment. I was rather referring to the fact that we should have had 8 days of live coverage! This is the biggest and best Mountain Bike race in the World and I was merely expressing disappointment that we could only manage to get together11 minutes of the days events. But yes you are right I also have no idea how difficult this is to put together so I'm just going to sit back in typical South African fashion and accept a second rate service (can I say that in lieu of piss poor?) for a premium price.
