Hi Guys,

I have the option of getting either of these wheelsets, brand new at a really great prices, but I can only take one. Both are tubeless wheelsets and 2010 models.

The Mavics are the more expensive ones but I really like the America Classics.

On the riding side, I'm a light rider (60kg's), but I'm very rough on my bike, I don't hold back on rocky downhills, so I'm a bit concerned about the strength of the wheelset.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I've had 2 sets of Classics - great wheels, hubs easy to service, but I must be honest the rims are a touch soft - even on my second set where I am a little more careful, I have already put a small ding in the back one.

I cannot comment on the Crossmax.

As for the American Classics: The rims are a bit soft imo (can be expected for the weight). Dont buy if you love Geax TNT tyres, they are a b!tch to fit and you may even bend the rims to do so. The tape they use to cover the nipple holes do not work to well with sealant either (not a real tubeless wheel). Will disintegrate in about 1 year. Apart from that I really enjoyed them so far and no issues with the hubs. Rolls really smoothly.

I'm riding a 2010 set of American Classics(I'm 90kg) with no issues whatsoever. I've replaced 2 sets of tyres on these wheels and havent found the tape to be lifting. No dings either, however, because of my weight, I don't ride low pressures. They are really great wheels and I would take them over Mavic's.

I have both wheelsets and the Mavics stand out over the AC.The Mavics are a solid wheelset bombproof and light where as the AC are light and roll just as good as the Mavics but lack the strength in the rim itself. If you like bombing through a rock garden and bush wacking Without worrying about your rims TAKE the Mavics...

Sounds like the op really gives his equipment a good thrashing, anyone here who's commented do the same? In terms of weight to strength, the XL's may be the ones.. The AC's, as good as they are, could be too 'light duty'.
