Ok so the summer is over and it is time to put away the road bike and switch over to the MTB.

My question is which is better?

A) Take road bike in for service and then put it away for the winter

or

B) Put bike away now and rather take it in for a service when Spring is upon us

Since a service is an expensive thing these days I cannot do both........

I would service it in Spring. With some LBS' you will probably have to take it back at least once, as it's almost never 100% right the first time, and if you take it back in three or four months time they might show you the middle finger.

I would carry on riding then both and service normally....

As for expense, service your own bike.Road service is a piece of old tacky and apart from shocks and forks the mtb is not much more except more regularly

Take it in now, at least you can still remember the problems that need to be sorted, wait until spring and you have no hope. You will probably also save some cash doing it sooner.

I agree with the Wurm, service your own road bike, it is embarrassingly simple once you get the hang of it. I have saved thousands over the last few years with five bikes to service
