"HOUSE RULES.pdfDear All,

It is with great pleasure that I am sending this email out.

Heartland Property Leasing, Trail Flow Sports and myself are happy to announce a new trail system situated in the heart of JHB. Not more than 5km as the crow flies from Sandton, has our team managed to design and create a haven for mountain bikers, trail runners and walkers.

We have spent countless hours cutting and implementing trails which can be utilised by regular enthusiasts as well as the novice and beginner. The trails are a combination of jeep track, single track and technical rocky sections. Although we have spent days cutting trails, we have not even scraped the tip of the iceberg, and users can be sure that every month a new and exciting addition shall be added to the route.

The trails are situated within a security fence which is patrolled 24 hours a day, however this is not an invitation for users to ride alone. In all cases please ride in groups and watch out for unsuspecting characters. Any suspicious activities are to be reported to either myself or the security guards on patrol, for immediate reaction and rectification.

The trails will be open from Saturday 21 April 2011 at 06h30.

Please see the attached documents for further information and House Rules.

Directions:

Travelling along the N3 Take the London Road off-ramp, at the traffic lights cross over London road, and continue along Peace street. Turn left into valley road, at fork in road keep left on Johannesburg Road. Continue along Johannesburg road, past the Shell garage on your right. Keep heading straight at the traffic circle, which becomes Centenary road, a large dam will be on your right. Travel around the dam, and you will see the Gautrain on your left side. At the T-Junction turn left onto Antwerp road, travel under the Gautrain railroad and continue straight at the circle, the road becomes Park avenue. At the second road turn right travel around the circle and head past Heartland House towards the sports clubhouse and find parking on either in the lot or on the soccer fields.

IMPORTANT:

In order to gain access to the trails all trail users will be required to fill out an indemnity form and pay the prescribed entry fee. Trail users are reminded that AECI land is off limits to any person who has not filled out the indemnity form and paid the prescribed fee. This is vital as the operations and manufacturing of highly dangerous chemicals within the AECI property must be taken into consideration AND BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF ALL THOSE ENTERING THE AREA. ANY PERSON CAUGHT UTILISNG THE TRAILS WITHOUT FILLING IN THE INDEMNITY FORM SHALL BE DEALT WITH TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW AS A TRESSPASSER.

Please keep in mind that it is an absolute privilege to be able to utilise the land for the purposes of mountain biking, running and hiking, and that all users need to bear that in mind when utilising the trails.

I personally look forward to seeing all of you using the trails as they were intended, should you have any questions feel free to drop me an email.

Kind Regards

R40 Entry fee a little higher than I had hoped, as this could become our local spot, but I will reserve judgement until we have ridden there...

Some feedback on the trail at Modderfontein we cycled this past weekend.

A really great initiative, excellent riding and training ground in the modderfontein area we so desperately need. A LOT of work has gone into the trail building, the bridges, the markings and good use of space. Its easy to get there, pay and ride. About 400m of climbing per lap which is quite flat but great place to get some good training practice in. It’s all ridable for ladies and kids, and I felt totally safe riding there, even if I was on my own. Adding to the good feel was the many riders around anyway. We have noted a few suggestions for the organizers, and hope and want this to be a premium mtb park in jhb.Great job so far!!!

The R40 is well worth the money seeing the effort that has gone into this and remember the MTN cycle park is R50. Here you can actually get a decent long training ride in where one can only do short 3 or 4km laps at the MTN cycle park.

Im not sure what the roadmap is for the future of this mtb park, but there is a lot of potential and hope it keeps up its present rate of popularity and growth.

Happy riding all

What access times are we looking at e.g weekdays etc?

Weekends and public holidays only to start with and I believe they have 35km of trails.

I was there on the opening day.....

It is very plain and simple....No thrills no fuss...

R40 is way overpriced!

Although it is very close to me I have not gone back and will maybe go check it out after at least 3months to hope for some GREAT Riding instead of just going through the motions....

Well thats how I feel...

Go check it out and decide for yourself!

IIRC you've just started working, so the price might seem quite expensive now but hopefully will seem cheaper once you have some cash coming in. For most people it's the same price or less than a movie and popcorn, and I'd rather be riding. Also, they'll add season tickets at some point, which will help if it's a local ride.

For me, I'd rather use it than the Bryanston bike park. I ride there maybe once a year and it's 50 bucks to go around in small circles that are either too easy or too hard/dangerous. Modderfontein will improve, they have tons of space to work with, and the money we're paying will help make it better. I'm likely to use it at least once a month.
