Hello guys,

Quick question: I currently ride a GT Zaskar hardtail 26". I can get a good deal on a second hand Cannondale Scalpel. But my GT is a medium and the scalpel is a large. Is there a huge difference in the sizes, ie can I ride the large and not feel to much difference (excluding the rear shock, obviously)?

Also, what must I look for on the second frame in order to check whether it is still ok?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps - but also take a look in the Cannondale section on the mtbr forum -

I would take a close look at the frame for cracks - esp, in the chainstay area. I assume its carbon?

Also remember life time warranty only applies to the 1st owner.

Thanks Kosmonooit. Will look at mtbr forum.

Yes it is carbon. I will insure the bike so if it breaks, I am covered.

Thanks for your comments.

Cannondale Scalpel 2011 model. I am 175 cm tall.

It would seem that the medium frame would bea better option.

think you will get away with a large. the scalpel bb is quite high. just check reach. remember limited stem options on lefty

I wouldnt ride a large frame at 1.75m tall. You wont be optimally positioned on the bike. Dont do it. Reach will be a problem, that wont be fixed with a shorter stem, you will feel too far back on the bike and it will be difficult to keep your front wheel down up steep climbs.

agree with you, but still worth trying out the frame.
