Even some "local is lekker" brands, that sell for R12k+, can be had for +/- $400 (R3200 + shipping).

I'd probably go for the same "weave" though. With a bit of KCNC here and there, this would be a m03r light 29er.

Built mine with full XT for around 12k. Been riding it for almost 3 years, no problems

That might be true to some extent , I'd rather be on a plain black no name carbon than on a painted one called "Spoetnik "
