Yeah, get what you're saying. But it's still a great feat for a two year old upstart brand to finish ahead of so many other pro teams and bike brands. And it's local!

A great "deal" is to buy the Yeti BigTop 29er for $1099... this Momsen mass produced, "everyone has it frame" is not a great deal at 12k.. sorry to say... just my view.

Silverback, Momsen, Rapide, and countless other brands are selling these....

For R7600 you can get the Rapide which is also a "local" brand, not?

Or... get the same frame, unbranded, over eBay with a carbon stem, carbon bars, carbon seatpost, carbon saddle, full carbon fork and carbon bottle cages, for around R6500 (R5600 for the product, and guessing R900 levies at the post office, if that much). Then you got another R6500 to buy whatever pimp wheelset you want.

Where do Yeti frames get manufactured? Intense? Who manufactures Specialized's frames?

I do believe there's a difference between ordering off the shelve frames and selling them direct and building a brand like Victor Momsen is doing. You don't see Rapide putting big money into local racing do you? You don't see them going through the effort of getting support to you through your local bike shop. You don't see them tweaking frame designs to conform to exactly what they want or doing R&D with prototype frames out there.

LOL... you must be kidding me right, you are actually comparing a Yeti, Spez or Intense frame to a Momsen right?

You of all people... that's really funny, thanks for the lag... good one'

Ok, in all honesty the R13k for the frame and the wheels are actually not a bad deal.. especially since their frame has some really nice "tweaks" from their "R&D" input. And for sure you can rely on them if something ever should go wrong...

I'd buy one if my BigTop wasn't just sent on it's way to SA...

No, not quite. What I'm trying to get at is we (me included) is quick to scuff at these frames flooding the market from the east all the while most frames from well-known respected brands also hails from the east. Heck, my freaking Ibis Mojo is manufactured in the east, then gets shipped to the states for QC, then to the local distributor, then to my LBS then to me...no wonder it's so more expensive than buying straight.

Damn you! :cursing: Long, slack, low and sexy! What's not to like?!

Back to the topic. I still think R13k for that frame plus wheelset is a very good deal.

Agreed 100%

However I blame it on the LBS...

They dont have experienced enough sales people who can actually provide enough good information and education to customers, especially newbies...

If a LBS had a couple of frames in stock, a couple grouppo's, stems, posts and finishing kit, then they would eble customers to buy local bikes in better spec and better personal match.

But all dumbass LBS sales staff want do is sell people the crap they have standing on the floor... which inevitably ends up being the mass imported probike and omnico brands....

Wow. 10th. I know its a good deal and its not actually about the bike, but to celebrate coming 10th is quite funny.

Oh, and if I remember correct a Vets team on Momsen bikes were leading by quite a margin (45min or something like that) when the one guy fell on the second last day and lost their lead plus another 30min or so. In the end they had to throw in the towel.

Yip. Exact same problem with musical instrument shops. Guys or gals who's band didn't... doesn't quite make it gets hired cause they're cheap then try to sell to people who've been doing it for years. Some people pick up on the garbage they get fed, but a whole lot of newbies to the sport take their advise and end up riding (playing) something that doesn't make sense.
